So after much exhaustive research I have narrowed it down to three pairs. Carolina 231's, WESCO Highliners, and WESCO Jobmasters. All 3 meet the primary criteria of being US made. Asian made boots don't last for more than 6 months. These will last for years. My last pair of Carolinas lasted 6 yrs. The WESCO's are supposed to last for twenty plus years. However the WESCO's are 300 more than the Carolina boots as they have to be customed made, due to me wearing a 14ee or 15d. So whats yalls take? Any of you non carpet walkers ever owned a pair of WESCO's?

No. Get a pair of Red Wings. You can thank me later.

Pay the extra money because you will have those boots for the rest of your life and the fit will be better.

Sorry, I cannot help you with the boats....................errr, I mean boots. But consider this.

I have a question about custom fitted boots that will last for twenty or thirty years. Chances are, over that period of time your feet may change considerably. What is custom fit and comfortable today may be intolerable in twenty years. For years I wore size 12 footwear. About twenty years ago, I could no longer fit comfortably in size twelve. I had to get size 13s. Like clothes, shoe sizes can vary from company to company.

Just a thought.

I've been doing the Red Wing thing for the last few years. Prior to that it was Timberlands. Red Wing repairs mfg defects for free and has free replacement shoelaces. I can get 2 years out of a pair.

Well Carolina is no longer making the 231's. So I'm trying a different pair of Carolinas. If they don't fit right Im gonna have to try some redwing logger boots. I'm just having a hard time convincing myself to spend 400+ on work boots. Even if the are lifetime warranted.

Rhino is right, feet change. One of my arches has flattened over the years and shoes are no longer easy to buy. I spent nearly 35 years in scrapyards, footwear takes a lot of punishment, I can't see any shoe lasting 20 years under that kind of stress.

I bought what was comfortable at the time, probably never spent more than 30-40 bucks, steel toe or otherwise, got a new pair every few years.

Danner has plenty of styles to choose from, but this is the one I have:

This is my second pair over the past eight years. Stitching on the side

gave way on my first pair after about 4 years and the boots were replaced

for free.

Those are some nice boots there. If I just didn't like the lineman and logger boots so much I would jump on those. Also from everything I've heard Danner makes a hell of a boot.

I would never buy a pair of boots hoping they last twenty years. I'm pretty hard on them. If I get a pair to last more than a year and a half, I'm doing great. Most waterproof guarantees last for only six months. My lineman's boots are Hall's, I rarely (thankfully) need to wear them only when I need to climb a pole. I wore them a lot when I was an apprentice. Point is, if you are wearing them everyday, no way any boot will last twenty years. Save your money and buy a good pair of boots you plan on replacing in a few years.
