Trickerie Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Hey all, Was looking for a few opinions on some reels. I've been looking to invest in 2 baitcasters in different price ranges. BPS Pro Qualifier vs Abu Garcia Orra Okuma Serrano vs Shimano Curado 50e And, if I only could get ONE of the 4, which be the best "all around" reel? Thanks Quote

Super User NorcalBassin Posted January 29, 2012 Super User Posted January 29, 2012 Curado >> BPS PQ > Orra > anything Okuma The 200e7 Curado would be more of an "all around" reel but the 50e is great with lighter baits. I have been more than pleased with the PQ's (I have 3) and it seems as though you can always get them on sale during the BPS classic and get an additional discount by trading in a reel. Cannot speak specifically for the Orra (I only having spinning option), but I'd suspect that the increased price vs a PQ is not worth it. Good luck! Quote

I figured the curado would be the best. BPS has the pro qualifier on sale for $90, so maybe I'll pick that up first. Also, i hear the Lew's Laser Speed Spool MG was a good reel, is there any truth in that? Its their bottom line reel, pretty much. Quote

lmoore Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 The Orra's are a surprisingly good reel. I've used them in the past and was really pretty impressed. Okuma has made good improvements recently and I actually like using a couple of their models. That being said, it's tough to beat a Curado. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 29, 2012 Super User Posted January 29, 2012 The Curado is the best reel in that bunch. The BPS comes with easy curtomer service. Okuma hasn't answered any of my calls to their service dept. I haven't heard anything good or bad about the Abu. Quote
msolorio Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 ive got the orra and its been a great reel, smooth, tough, pretty light and surprisingly, it handles lighter baits with ease. as far as the lews reels go, AMAZING! ive got the $89 speed spool and this thing is very very smooth, casts great, light, and is a beast. lews has very tight tolerances so you dont have a buncha spool movement or "rattle" like some other reels. lews would be a great buy. flippin and pitchin Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I just played with the Okuma Kamodo and Helios today. Okuma has come a long long way in their fresh water casting reels. I still prefer my Lews and Revo Premiers. Honestly, there is some incredible stuff on the market. Look at what Pinnacle has done this past year. The options boggle the mind. Quote
