Light Flouro Knot

What is the best knot for 8 lb. Flouro? I seem to break off on the hook set occasionally

San Diego Jam and Trilene are what I use. Francho always says that when you are using the palomar with fluoro that you have moisten it well and synch it down perfectly.

i use a doubled-line clinch and wrap 3 times. i had lots of problems using a palomar.

Ya, I have had a lot of problems with the palomar, my typing was a little confusing.

I use a uni or uni snell for most hooks and baits. But there should be no problem with a Palomar, unless it's user error. I use a Palomar for drop shot rigging 4 and 6# fluoro without problem. If there is a kink before the knot, start over.

San Diego Jam, whether it was the knot or I could just tie this one better than the rest, changed the game for me.

I had 0 break offs with it last season compared to a handful with a palomar

make sure your drag is set so if you are like me and get excited and set the hook too hard your knot doesn't take the full impact..that helped me to

On the palomar: Moisten very well and pull both the main line and tag together. If its moist enough you'll be able tighten it nearly all the way like this. Then a gentle tug on the main line to ensure its solid and you're good to go.

Just about any knot tied properly will hold. I don't care for palomar myself, but for people that swear by it, then that's your knot. Most of the time I use variations of a simple clinch knot for hook and swivel attachment. My knots will vary a little bit depending on line test, and type of line being used, this knot runs the gamut for me from freshwater to pelagic species. I tie the knot until it's right, any knot tied wrong will not hold. Moistening a knot is always a good idea, even braided lines. Knot failure is a rare for me, but it can happen. Two words are non existent in my vocabulary, Always and Never.

I use a trilene knot on every thing

Go through the eye 2x making a small loop, twist the tag end around the main line 5x then back t thru the loop you made from going through the hook eye. Push those twists down the main line while pulling the tag end. Moisten this while doing. Knot strength is great.

I've found that if I pull on the main line to just snug it down then tighten by pulling on tag, will make for a much better knot.

That's how I used to do it but by pulling on just one end you sometimes get a loop that can kink when you pull the other end. Not that it's NOT possible to do it correctly by pulling on one end at a time but its easier for me to make sure I've got it right if I pull both. It won't cinch down easily if the line isn't wet enough so you can tell when you've done damage.

Pull both, until the main line is snug. Then cinch the rest of the way pulling on the tag end. Otherwise, you mangle the main line above the hook, and the line will fail.
