In the last 7 days I've been offshore 3 times. Under normal circumstances my equipment performs quite well for the species we catch, kings, bonita, blackfins, amberjacks and cobia. I have been spooled twice and had my line snapped anther 2 times. I've caught 40-50# tarpon on inshore gear and I'm using offshore equipment................what's going on, lol. 32# of Penn conquer drag and Avet reels don't come close to stopping them, I guess 300 yards of line isn't enough.

Hmmm, I say sharks or smokin' kings. Though it's not too common, but it could be porpoise. Chase'em down with the boat.

At least you're fishing and hooking fish, I'm not even getting that far, just fishing and wishing. Some of the ponds have skim ice on them too so that doesn't help.

Not that's never happened !..........

My gut feeling tells me they were big Cobia, fishing in about 80' in all the episodes, but no real way to know. My friend had 3 bait lines out , I had 2 plus I was casting a spoon, can't get the lines in fast enough to run it down.

I'd be more than happy to give y'all a hand with that. ;)

I'm not changing my reels.......yet, but I'm in the market for a couple of beefier rods, been thinking about it for months, just haven't pulled the trigger.
