Looks like the legend will not return to Indy. Manning and team owner Jim Irsay are at odds and they're doing it in public. Irsay called Manning a "politician" who should "keep his concerns in house" after Manning voiced his displeasure for Irsay's recent firings of most of the coaching staff. Don't look for Manning to return to Indy.

Andrew Luck had BETTER be good. Talk about big shoes to fill!

That really sucks.

A player as good as Manning, whose played his whole career in one place, should stay there.

I mean he's done so much for Indianapolis and now Irsay is kicking him to the curb? That's bull.

I could honestly see him retiring if he is for sure leaving the Colts.

From all reports I have read, the nerve is damaged and is still healing from the surgeries. It affects his arm strength. I hope the best for him, but it really looks like his career is over.

I don't know if any one listens to the Dan Patrick show. But he has been saying we wont see him ever in a colts uniform any more since early fall. I just hope Payton don't pull a Favre move.

I don't see Peyton Farve-ing it. If they release him, I could see him playing someplace else, but I don't see him hopping to four different teams. I see them keeping him on to mentor Luck, either as a QB coach or if he can play.

If he doesn't return as the starter, I don't think he'll return in any capacity. Manning has also said that he wanted to play for one team his entire career. I don't see him playing elsewhere either, but anythings possible.

I'm also an Irish fan so, here's my best case scenario...

Manning retires as an active NFL player and accepts a job as offensive coordinator for Brian Kelly.

Stuff like that is enough to give a ND fan a Bo*er :eyebrows:

Personally I think he should go to an in conference rival, and pumel the colts.

They have done virtually nothing to surround him with any kind of talent. Marshal Faulk is the ONLY offensive talent he has ever had around him, and they traded him away when he was still in his prime.

All these other guys Marvin Harrison, Peirre' Garcon, and others had the stats to be perceived as "good players" because Peyton was feeding them the ball.

Just look at what the Colts are without him.

I'd like to see him get at least another Superbowl win.

A team that would be nuts not to pick him up is Minnesota. He would be able to jump in right away, has a good running game-exponentially better than he has ever had before, and Christian Ponder could use the mentoring.

I don't see that, as they are a ways from competing. Plus, Ponder looked much better than other QB's taken before him. Lots of teams looking for QB's: Seattle; Miami; Cleveland; and perhaps Jax, as well as SF.

He's due a HUGE bonus very soon, so we'll know shortly. Also, the number one overall pick (Luck) should not be holding a clipboard.

i don't think Minnesota would be a good fit at all.

They have one good receiver in Harvin, but he's always hurt and their running game is garbage without Peterson.

Peterson might not even play this season with his injury, so even if they wanted him, I don't think he would go there.

If he doesn't retire, I could see him going to Washington, Miami, or Arizona.

It would be cool to see what him and Fitzgerald could do in Arizona.

Sad to see the situation turn south like this. The owner should have just bit his tongue and kept his "politician" comments to himself. All Manning said was what everyone already knew about the atmosphere anyway. I've been assuming that Manning was going to retire, but if Irsay keeps this up I could see it motivating Manning to give it a go with a contender. Luck is likely going to be awesome, but there is obviously very little talent in Indy right now and they have years ahead of them before they'll be elite again. I'd love to see a 90% healthy Manning behind center for the 49ers.

Oh, one more small factor in all this.... Peyton's $28 million option next year. I'm sure that plays into Irsays equation. It is very likely that Irsay will not pick it up.

If anyone has ever earned the right to make that decision alone, it is Manning. If Irsay says no to Manning, you might see a huge backlash. There are colts fans who are colts fans ONLY because of Manning.

Irsay is not making many friends here.

The only remedy to Irsay's current ailments is another winning team....FAST!

The Vikings have a lot more holes to fill than QB. Ponder has potential and we need recievers, d-backs, & O-lineman.

As far as Peytons injury, I had the exact same surgery close to 20 years ago from a wrestling injury. The fusion in the neck will heal fine, but the question is how much nerve damage was done. If it was small he will recover fine in short time. If the nerve damage is extensive, he might not ever fully heal (nerve wise) and have numbness in the muscles of his arm (which arm depends on where the damage was.)

He didn't make too many in Baltimore.......

I think both Irsay and Manning are setting up the fans for what is about to happen, Peyton leaving. I think Manning will play again, and he being able to choose, will play for a team that just needs a qb to contend. Arizona, Washington are 2 of the favorites that come to mind. I'm not a Peyton fan, but it stinks when something like this happens, like Montana leaving frisco. i hope Brady stays in NE til he retires, I think Kraft will make sure he does, truly a great owner.

Apparently Peytons nerve isn't healing as fast as expected. Sources are now saying that his career is indeed over, however it has not been made official.

Peyton built the new Stadium and made Indy who they are since they left Baltimore. Without Peyton there is no new stadium, no Super Bowl in Indy, etc. If his career is truely over then he had a great one, top ten! The organization owes it to him to keep him there and have him retire there in my opinion.

Bert Jones had to leave pro football and the Baltimore Colts due to the same type of neck injury.

If Peyton does retire I hope he goes into college coaching. Another great name in the SEC coaches ranks will really shake up the conference. It would be fun.

I can't see Peyton taking the chance of seriously injuring himself nor any NFL team taking a chance on him with the large amount of money he will get paid. But stranger things have happened.

With Matt Flynn on the open market and the up and coming quarterbacks from college in this year's draft I would think the Colts can find a suitable replacement. Then again........

The latest report I heard was that his nerve is not healed enough for him to throw well enough. The nerve might only get to 80% of what it once was, so is 80% of Peyton good enough? Does he want to play at that level? I also heard that he will not risk further injury, as the vertabrae itself has healed, it's the nerve that might not heal, so taking a hit wouldn't be a risk.

Peyton has been cleared by 2 doctors to play. Let the speculations un fold. I believe he will end up playing in Indy for the rest of his career and the Colts will trade the number one pick for multiple picks and or players so they can get back to their winning ways.

I'd be happy with that. If he's healthy, Peyton's got five years left of good football. You could get a LOT for Andrew Luck in a trade. Colts would contend next year if that happens.

Scrutch, Peyton has received the green light from two doctors to resume his career next year.

The interesting part of the equation is if the Colts want him back or let him go to the Titans.

I am sure he can help the future Indy quarterback next season and maybe win a few games along the way.
