BassFishingMachine Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Well, I know some guys like to use the "spinnerbait trailerbait" which looks like this http://images.ebsco.com/lurenet/YBT483.jpg But I've also heard of single tail grubs being popular, and I have used them with success as well. The only thing is that alot of the times a spinnerbait without anything other then a trailer hook tends to work pretty good for me. Regardless, I was curious to know when do you choose to fish a spinnerbait with a trailer bait over a spinnerbait without a trailer bait? I suppose a spinnerbait with a trailerbait will give the bait a larger profile, so I guess if your trying to imitate a larger bait a trailerbait is key? Quote
senko_77 Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 I've never been a fan of a trailer on a spinnerbait. In all honesty I think it does nothing to improve your catch rate because I feel that up until the moment of the fish biting, it's focus is on the blades. Once it keys in on the skirted area, I don't want those tails sticking way past the hook. As far as using a curly tail grub, the only advantage it would give you is lifting your bait if you rig it tail down. It's the same way a swim jig works. Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 4, 2009 Super User Posted September 4, 2009 I use single tail, double tail, & twin tail trailers The use of trailers adds lift when working spinner baits around vegetation When I want a larger overall profile without adding weight trailers do the trick It's probably 60% without 40% with Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 4, 2009 Super User Posted September 4, 2009 5" GYCB Single Tail Grub for me. 8-) Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted September 4, 2009 Super User Posted September 4, 2009 My trailer on a spinnerbait is a hook. If I want more lift I use bigger blades. Quote
Stasher1 Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 I usually jam my used/torn plastic worms in the outer pocket of my tacklebag, so when I want a spinnerbait trailer I just grab a ripped worm and use a few inches of it as a SB trailer. It adds bulk, a bit more action, and you just can't beat the price. Quote
