Wow, that's not going to be cheap. Sounds like a cool vessel though... 312 ft long and 82 ft wide yet it can cruise through 9 ft of water.

Glad no one was injured.

On the flip side - sounds like there may be quite a bit of new fish holding structure to check out.

"Don't Raise the Bridge - Lower the River "

Perhaps Alcohol was a Factor ?

It blew my mind when I heard about the bridge being hit last night. I travel that bridge regularly and there are several members on here that probably fished around it a few years ago at the BR roadtrip.

I was amazed there were no injuries as that is usually a pretty busy bridge. It is going to have a huge impact on travel in the area because to cross the lake now is probably going to add at least an hour to someone commute.

I don't think alcohol was involved. Apparently that ship has passed under the bridge in the past and they probably weren't expecting the water to be as high as it is. We have had quiet a bit of rain lately, and I am sure the lake is well above winter pool.

I'm reminded of the I40 bridge collapse here in Oklahoma back in 2002. It happened under much the same circumstances. A tug boat operator hit one of the bridge pilings with his load of barges. Unfortunately fourteen people lost their lives when they drove over the breach at 70 mph.

The water wasn't up at all. It was barely over winter pool at the time. That ship runs up and down the TN river all the time. I've seen it on 3 different occasions during the past two summers. The captain took the ship under the wrong span of bridge. The ship's owner is saying it's due to the lights on the bridge not working (which they weren't), but that's not an excuse considering that ship has better chart plotting equipment than any bass boat.

PILOT ERROR!!!!!

As the Southwest Airlines Cptain said when he landed fast and long in Burbank, CA and ended up at a gas station off the aiport "well, there goes my career."

It does NOT matter what the water level was or if certain lights were working, as captain you have to know what is safe and correct, that is part of the job of being captain.

As an airline captain -- we would be flipping burgers after that screw up.

Lucky for him no one was killed or he could face manslaughter charges.

As Homer Simpson would say --- DOH!!!
