The local Walmart here is getting better stuff too. So far they have Falcon Bucoo rods, KVD rods, and the manager said while I was looking at them, to come back in a few weeks, the entire fishing section is getting restocked with new and higher end stuff.

The same thing out here in So Cali.

Mine recently added quite a bit of new tackle in addition to all the new rods, saw some Yamamoto Senkos, a bunch of SK crankbaits including some XS series and KVD 2.5s and 1.0s, they had some Rick Clunn Cranks and XCalibers too, lots of new spinnerbaits as well, War Eagles and some of the delux SK models. There was even more that I've forgotten, I was impressed.

Im glad to see it. For the most part the local Dick's stocks up once or twice at the beginning of the season and by fathers day fishing is done. The local pro stores only carry selections of specialty items and the pricing is nuts. They are great for what is "hot here and now" but again pricing is Rough. I hope Walmart gets back to the way they used to be. I like the mom and pops stores, But someone need to have the basics cheap.

my wal mart has shimano citica's, curado's, pflueger president spinning reels, Skeet reese reels, adrent reels, Falcon rods, berkely lightin shock rods, skeet reese rods, KVD rods, and abu garcia rods.

Their tackle is also starting to get better.

Looks like a better deal that bps to me at the moment.

Same here in Franklin, things are looking up.. for now....

Just checked my WM here in eastern Iowa (Davenport) and they are clearing out quite a few cheaper rods on sale right now along with some lures and softbaits ...I am hoping it is to make room for some nicer quality gear and tackle.

I stoped by my local Wally world yesterday for the first time in 2 months and all I can say is wow. They have falcon rods all the Abu rods exept the Villan line. Abu max baitcasters and the orra baitcaster and spinner. They also have a bunch of the quantiums I didn't stop and look to in depth the wife was hounding me " you can't fish for another year why you looking" I don't know if I could buy rods from there cuz punk kids or maybe the employees idk throw basketballs and such in the racks banging up the guides on the rods. It is nice to see em step it up they started carrying owner hooks as well in the fall but seeing Abu,falcon, and quantum was quite a surprise.

Just wanted to follow up on this one. I'm in Davenport and they definitely did end up upgrading the selection at the West Davenport store. I haven't been in the Elmore location but I assume it's the same way. Vendettas, Vengeance, KVD rods, etc. They had a lot of stuff that wasn't there just a few months ago.

Mine still blows when it comes to fishing tackle, rods and reels are crap and selection of softplastics are pretty lame. Although, they did have Trokar hooks, and viscous fluorocarbon. The nearest tackle shop to me though is a hardware store. Best reel they got is a revo s. Rods are ugly sticks. They are getting a better selection of lures and am happy to see that. My area is mainly walleye and pike/muskie fishing. So seeing some bass tackle makes me really happy.

My local WM has been a joke tackle and rod/reel wise, so this would be a great change. I don't have a local tackle shop (BPS is 90 minutes away), so it would be great to be able to pick up some decent gear there in a pinch. I did see that they actually had a pack of authentic Senkos the other day... it had one peg mixed in with about 20 Yum pegs on the wall but it's a start. No rods over 39.99 yet.

X2

I've stopped going in our WM, it started to look like a K-Mart. I'd rather order on-line and save the two hour R/T to PBS. Our local tackle shop is rip-off city.....

I live like 2 minutes from W. Kimberly Walmart...selection is so much better, just picked up some KVD square billed cranks the other day.

I posted earlier about mine. Was there again last night. Still have squat. Especially when it comes to rods and reels. :( I did pick up a couple Rapala DT-6 crankbaits at half price and a few other items on sale such as the only Strike King jig left, a few Gamakatsu hooks and 3/16 oz. Strike King Spinnerbaits. Wish I had gotten there when they first put this stuff on sale. Many items were already sold out. Normally nothing is on sale at this store (in the fishing line).

I went to my local WM recently, they now have tungsten weights, Abu Garcia and Falcon rods, and an increased quantity and quality of reels and lures. It's too bad I don't need any more rods and reels at this point, or I'd have a shopping spree.

the wallmart we have here carries abu garcia, i bought the vengence pole from wallmart i just couldnt pass up the offer they had

I just noticed today mine is also carrying kayaks and bassraider boats. The kayaks are only $180 I didn't see price on the raider.

OK, you made me do it....

While I was out today, I stopped into our WM. I must say it was cleaner, I didn't have to step over anything; but I did see items laying in a few isles. I didn't see any noticeable change in the fishing area. So, for me, on a 1 - 10 scale I'll give it a 3.

My local Walmart in Wichita really steeped it up. It multiplied their tackle by at least 4, their rods and reels too.

The one near me expaned their selection of rods, reels and baits. Not great but much better. I don't think anybody mentioned it but the reason Walmart dumped their tackle sections was one of the corporated officers was knee-padding Lewinsky style for a certain animal rights org. When he got the boot, they decided to bring back outdoor sports.

went to the west sacramento walmart a couple of days ago...they had luckycraft pointers!!! still, they weren't any cheaper than anywhere else so i'd still rather buy from a board sponsor.

Just bought a KVD crankin Rod at my local WM....

Everytime I go back they have more NEW items, I stop by the fishing department every visit now!

I just like to go in there and look to see what they have. Occasionally I buy a bait or two. Sometimes more than that. I do like the Ugly Stiks they have, and I am glad to see them moving in the direction of better tackle and equipment (again). They have a Pflueger President combo that I think would be nice. For $80, how would you beat it?? I think it would make a pretty fair cranking rod for people who like spinning gear since the rod feels so limber.

I worked there in the 90's and early 2000's. In the 90's, they had a downright decent selection of reels and other stuff. By the time I quit in 2002 it had fallen way down, and in recent years it's just dried up completely. They don't even have a glass case anymore with the nicer reels inside of it. But it looks like they might be making a comeback now. Still not anywhere near as nice as it was once, but better than last year for sure.
