The Rooster Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 We're sandwiched between Cabela's, 2 Bass Pro Shops, and a Roger's Sporting Goods, along with 3 Dicks Sporting Goods all within 30 minutes of here. I can't really blame the local wally worlds for not even trying to carry anything but the basics in the sporting goods department. I wanna move to where this guy lives! 1 Quote
Jim3h Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 d**n!! I wish my walmarts were like that! the best things mine have are these really old Quantum bait-casting rods, nothing over 20$ When ever i go out to get quality fishing stuff i go to dsg, which is a good 30 min ride from my house but i have a sports athourty pretty close with some decent tackle! Packard Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I hope you didn't get kicked out. Taking photos in Walmart usually results in you getting the boot. Quote
Jason Penn Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 i stopped in a wal mart yesterday in the closest "big" town. they had all the stuff already mentioned. they had the clunn cranks and the strike king tg weights about $1 or more cheaper than everywhere i've seen them online. i haven't checked my local wal mart yet but i don't really expect them to step it up. Hyrule Bass Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 ive seen walmarts tackle slowly improve over the years. so has their reel selection. i havent seen any of the local ones upgrade rods though. my local one also never has sales. the other two that are further away but i pass on the way to work always have sales though, so i check them out on occasion. found a bunch of Red Eye Shads for 2.50 one time, and also some select rapalas were on sale for 2.50. i actually think they have a better selection of hooks and sinkers than BPS Quote
FL_Sharpshooter Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 I saw my Walmart got KVDs, SK jigs, falcon rods, etc in too. Bout time they got in some decent stuff! Quote
Diggy Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 They added a bunch of reels. Caenans, victory spinning and casting, orra spinning reels, penns. Looks like more to come Quote
fishinkeebs Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 I am going to have to check the wally worlds out near me.Thanks for sharing the info! Quote
BradH Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Nothing cool at my Walmart. A couple years ago they got rid of all their decent stuff so I scored some ABU C3s for $35 and a Revo S for $75. They still carry the BCX turds though. Quote
d3bf48 Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Stopped in wally world for some coolant and checked out the fishing dept really quick. pleasantly surprised to see falcon bucoo micro guides in 4 different models. nice, hopefully more to come Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 I think I hit the motherload with m y Wally world.. I've been slowly seeing improvements with better rods etc.. Well after a couple of weeks of not lookin I went back in they have vengeance and vendetta rods, skeet w&m cranking rods , Kvd cranking rods , bucco casting rods, Daiwa Jupiter rods, rc square bills, zman elastec plastics, tight line plastics, sk tungsten weights , suffix 832 lines and other misc goodies. All that only 3 mins from my house. I'm gonna be a poor man with lots of tackle Quote
nightmid Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 yeah i talk to the sporting goods guy at mine and he told me they are doing a total revamp of there store i am in upstate new york Quote
21farms Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 i hit the south sacramento and the west sacramento stores and i'm seeing the kvd tour rods, the skeet reese sticks and the falcon bucoos. however, the prices are full retail and no cheaper than anywhere else so i don't see the point [scratches head]. Stasher1 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 so you can get that worm rod and get milk and eggs in the same place I wouldn't buy a $100+ rod at WM. Just think of how many slack-jawed mouth breathers have messed with it, tapped the tip (and the blank) on the shelves, rubbed the tip on the floor, etc to test the sensitivity, and how many times it has fallen out of the crappy racks they keep them in. Thanks, but I'll pass. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted February 7, 2012 Super User Posted February 7, 2012 The local walmart has started stocking the Vendettas, KVD and Skeet Rods, also shimano reels, I'm glad for the change. The closest BPS is a 2 1/2 hour drive one way, the local tackle shop doesn't carry anything decent either. So I'm hoping the selection in the baits will improve also. Quote

I would advise anyone that buys one just to give it a quick inspection. check the tips, guides, and reel seat. my brother in law was buying a rod and reel one time to pair up from walmart. it was an abu cardinal 104 and a rhino rod, standing in line with him to pay for it i realized the tip on the rod was all bent out of shape and went and found a good one on the rack. Stasher1 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I'm sure they do, but I'd rather not have to find out first hand. I guess my situation may be a bit different than some of the other members here since I have BPS, DSG, and Academy within 20 minutes of the house. Unless WM is selling them at a substantial discount (and they're not), I have no reason to buy my rods there. Quote
Diablos Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 It seems Walmarts in more popular bass fishing areas have better quality equipment. In the northeast(Mass), the best bass rod they sell may be a $29 Ugly Stik Quote
Red Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I was in Walmart today to buy a new vacuum cleaner and remembered this thread so I figured I would check out te crappy fishing section. I was shocked!! They have Vengeance and vendetta rods, some Daiwa rods and the KVD rods that go for $140. I saw Skeet reels and a Shimano Caenan. However, the bait selection was crap as usual. Hopefully they will continue to improve their selection. Cliff Quote
Trav3 Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Our WalMart has also started carying new plastics, rods, terminal tackle, etc. BUT I hate the fact that they DO NOT carry EWG hooks in ANY brand anymore! That kind of grinds my gears. And the store is only 5 minutes from my house.. I have to order online or drive to Dicks Sporting goods 35 minutes away or Bass Pro and hour away haha. Anyone else seeing this? Quote
