fowlskies Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Wondering what rod to match with my baitcaster. Only have$30-40 to spend on a rod. I have narrowed it down to either the Berkley Amp, Lightning or Lightning shock. I have an Amp on a spinning setup that I like using for jigs and plastics because I can feel the bottom so well. The thing is, I read on here that medium action is too light and that this rod is too weak to pull them out of the thick stuff. So it made me think I should get the lightning or the Shock. It'll be used for mainly jigs and plastics but would like it to be an all around setup. BTW this is my first baitcaster. Also the $50 Shock would be about $20 more than my budget. Quote
Packard Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Get a 7' MH Lightining Rod if they have it. Should work well for many purposes. Quote
msolorio Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 yup, 7' mh lightning rod is a good all purpose rod. i still use mine and find it to be more sensitive than a rod i paid almost 100 bux for. Quote
NCLifetimer Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 +1 to the lightening, second baitcast rod combo i ever bought and i still use it for cranking. the amp seems to also be a good rod. Quote
fowlskies Posted January 27, 2012 Author Posted January 27, 2012 Thanks for the opinions guys. Mabey I'll get the Lightning, although it didn't seem as sensitive as the amp when doing the "wiggle" test in the store. The other thing is I like to use braid and the Shock is advertised as being made to handle braid. Quote
