I have noticed on this, and other forums, a person can post a question about choosing reel A, or reel B. Now that is a specific question. The way I see it, he has already made up his mind to this point. So, why do people start suggesting reel C, D, X, and Z, and so on? He wants your opinion on A, or B.

That's all. Just answer the question.

Just my thoughts.

Usually the poster doesn't know much about A or B and other options

are MUCH better. For the most part, responders are just trying to be

helpful. I don't usually comment on low end gear because I really don't

know much about the specific model. On the other hand, after a decade

or two of "collecting", some of our members have learned a great deal

about competing brands at various pricing points.

To illustrate my point: Should I buy Rogues or Husky Jerks? My response

would be neither. Pointers are FAR SUPERIOR jerkbaits. Other options

include Megastrike Vision 110, McStick and Flit.

Like what RW said. Alot of people think they have narrowed it down to their "best" options, yet those are highly over-rated items they think are "best" because little kids on youtube tell them its super dooper awesome, and reviews on Bass Pro (a lot of people dont know what they're talking about, example, a review on 20# fluoro said "This line has way to much memory, going back to my 8# mono. ) say the same.

For example someone asks, "What reel should I get? The SHIMANO citica or the Daiwa Tierra?"

I would ask what it would be used for, and recommend accordingly, and It usually isn't what the OP listed. I might recommend a Revo S for flipping, pitching, because of the drag, a closeout Curado for its lighter-weight casting, etc.

The OP may not know that besides his options, there are far superior options that are still in his price range. That's why we may recommend products that he has not listed in what he want to know what is best.

I understand what you are saying, but I have noticed suggestions way out of the price range of what the question listed. Don't you think we should offer same priced options. After all, his selections may have been budget based.

There's one in every crowd that will shout "Yu needz to buy teh uuber Steez becuz it's the oober 1337."

Or if you save 50$ more, you can simply buy a much better product for the money, that is 10 fold better. I do alot of this, and there is a reason for it.

:D :D :D I often wondered myself why someone would suggest options way above the posted price range. It's one thing to suggest an item $10-$20 over budget, but $100 is out. At least for me. I buy the best I can afford, not the best. :)

It is funny, tho. A person does his research, asks for comparison on 3-4 rods (say), and gets another 6 options. Not that they aren't good options, but it in no way helps you narrow your choice. I've learned to live with it. Even expect it. Sometimes those other options are something I may not have considered or even known about so it is a good thing. No harm, no foul. :D

For the most part, when a pricing point is stated, the response addresses that range.

A recent post ask for "The Best Spinning Combination" in the Smallmouth section. I

responded, but sometime later the OP said they wanted to spend $300 or less. Not

having this little bit of information made my response worthless.

BTW...For $300 I would buy a Stradic 2500FJ offered recently on our Flea Market for $115

and an Avid AVS70MF or AVS68MXF for around $100 gently used.
