Lake Fork Live Magic Shad

I want to get some of these but im not sure what color, what do you guys recomend for a lake/pond where there isn't shad, just a kind of bluegill or tilapia

I am not familiar with their colors but I think you answered your own question. Look for something that resembles the colors of your bluegills, and I would still give a shad colored bait a try anywhere.

Have you not had much luck with shad patterns? We don't have shad here, but shad patterns work just as well as sunfish and perch patterns.

I love the action of this bait when rigged on a quality, weighted swimbait hook, texposed. However, after having 2 packages of the 5" size self destruct on me, I gave up on them. After casting the bait for awhile, the tail section would go flying off! Too expensive to have this happen this often. I did catch some decent bass on them, but not enough to make me feel better and off-set the expense.

I used to kill them on this bait in the white color on golf course tanks and my buddies tanks. Not a shad in any of them as far as I know. Interestingly, I have never used them on the main lake I fish which is loaded with shad!!

Tilapia and rainbow trout are the only colors I use here in South Florida. Iv'e gone through 20+ packages of each in the last two years.

They're also pretty effective as a trailer on a 1/4 oz. spinner bait. No skirt, just a white 3-1/2" Magic Shad (white is my favorite color, followed by Magic Shad and Golden Shiner). Slow roll it over rocks and timber.

I've also had good results with both sizes rigged texsposed on a weighted swimbait hook. 3/0 for the 3-1/2" ones, 5/0 for the 5-1/2"..

I haven't caught Anything yet on them (rigged this way) but they look Amazing on an a rig. I've had Great success. Using them with a 1/8 ballhead jig.

The magic shad is a great action bait, I'd like to see them redesign the head segment for better hook set ups.
