Hello all,

I just wanted to get some opinions, I just bought the new NRX bass spinning rod and Im anxious to use it this year and Im wondering if anyone has had a chance to use it and would like to know what you thought. I have read some great things but I figured by asking on this forum, I would get some realistic feedback on what to expect. Thanks for any input, and I look forward to staying active on here this year and future seasons.... Tight Lines!!

Welcome to the boards! So, which specific rod did you get? I have a couple blues (852S and 893C). I absolutely love the combination of sensitivity and the feather weights of these rods and would love some more models, but my wife would kick my tail if I tried to buy another any time soon. Enjoy that awesome rod!

IT depends entirely on the rod model. There are a couple of the NRX spinning that I detest, they're better in the GLX line.

Have read some bad things about them quality control wise. People say they used bad epoxy and it cracks all over the place. Just thought i'd put that out there.

I haven't had that issue, and if it were an issue, I'd just about guarantee you that I'd have had it by now having something like 9 of the rods in the series. The problem, in terms of adhesive, has been associated with the Reel Seats, which I've had on a couple of rods. Other than that, I've experienced none of the other things that people talk about. I've heard everything from bad guide inserts to misaligned Recoils- again, no issues to report on there.

The two rods in the series that I like better in the GLX are the 802 and 852. The 852 in the NRX just doesn't have the depth and feel that the GLX does. The 802 feels underpowered in the NRX.

I haven't noticed that as a problem with my 852, but then again my only GLX is an 803S so I can't give a good comparison. I second the lack of quality control issues on my end. I tend to think that they may be a bit overhyped (although I'll admit there should be zero problems with a $500 rod).

I have a love/hate thing going with the NRX's. I got my first one, 803C, in May of last year. Wonderful rods to fish with, even compared to my GLX's and Dobyn's Extremes. Light, verstaile and sensitive. I gradually added 3 more casting models to my collection. Every single one of them has gone back to Loomis for various issues, mostly the reel seat glue issue. But you can see 893C's issue in the pictures I linked to.

I just got 2 new green NRX spinning rods via the THUT trade-in program, 822SYR and 822DSR. The DSR seems perfect, but the SYR has a few build issues as you can see in my pictures. All 4 pictures are of brand new, never fished rods. Not 2nds, not refurbs, sold as brand new, perfect NRX's.

I've never been real picky about rod build issues. If a wrap isn't perfect or something, I don't really care. But these NRX's have got me inspecting new ones a lot more closely. It's really a shame that the build and inspection quality on these pretty expensive, top of the Loomis line rods is so horrible. I enjoy fishing with these rods enough to tolerate the hassles, but I'd recommend inspecting the rods closely when you buy them. If you're expecting perfectly built rods, I'd look elsewhere.

The loomis rods are built on high quality blanks with high quality components, no doubt about it. However, they are still mass produced and suffer from the inherent QC issues as any other product. As a rod builder who buys components in much smaller lots than a big company like Shimano/Gloomis, I can assure you that a hefty share of the $500 price tag is the Loomis name and marketing, which includes the much debated replacement program. I strongly encourage anyone looking to invest in a high end rod to consider working with a competent custom builder.

852S. I really feel like the GLX version of the rod is better.
