WashDCIrish Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 On my way to BPS today with my roommate and he came up with a great highly debatable topic of discussion that lasted about the whole 45 minute drive. If you could have 5 lures for LMB to fish year-round, what would they be? I don't mean spinners, cranks, etc... Literally 5 actual lures in the box that are the most reliable and they are the only things you could fish with for the rest of your life, what would they be. Things to consider: they should be somewhat productive throughout all seasons, what colors would cover a range of varying conditions, etc... I've got my list, I'm curious to see what you all would throw Quote

BrianSnat Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I'd go with: The 4-3/8" floating Rapala, silver A popper of some sort. I like the Rapala Skitter Pop or a Rebel Zell Rowland Pop-R. Rapala Count Down 4-3/8" 7" plastic worm, blackish or purpleish. There are many good ones. I'm not sure why you ruled out spinners because my last would be a Mepps spinner, brass blade. Quote
Iowa Matt Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Rapala DT3 Rapala X-Rap 4"-5" finesse worm (Robo or Strike King Elaz-tec) 5" hollowbody swimbait 6" Senko I feel like I could catch a bass any day of the unfrozen-water year with these baits. I have been really trying to limit how many baits I take with me on any one day so that I learn to fish the ones with me better instead of switching every 20 casts. I think I would catch at least 90% as many fish as I do if I only had 5 baits to use. Matt Quote

D4u2s0t Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I pretty much only use a few thins anyways. I love the guys that go out with 100 million baits, and 95% of them are still in the original packing. Makes no sense to me. I have a small plano 2 tray box that holds everything. May not be very impressive, but everything in there catches fish. That being said, my 5 in no order: 1) *** from *** 2) Burner Spinnerbait 3) Baby Brush Hog from *** 4) 6" Fluke - *** 5) Space Monkey I don't put much importance on color, I've found it doesn't make much of a difference. Most of my soft plastics are some variety of watermelon because I think it looks cool, and spinnerbaits are sexy shad or chart/white. What will come out of this post if it goes long enough, is that everyone has their own idea of what the "best" baits are. What it comes down to is personal preference. If there were truly 5 "best" baits, everyone would have the same answer. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted August 31, 2009 Super User Posted August 31, 2009 1. 6" Senko 2. Fat Ika 3. Gitzit 4. LC Sammy 5. Jig & Trailer But there is so much more you "need". My favorite lure class is jerkbaits. The Silver Blue/Orange Excalibur Xr50 is a must. Cavitron Buzzbait, Rage Tail Anaconda, Chug Bug, spinnerbaits and crankbaits running various depths have their time and place. The hundreds (thousands?) of lures some guys have aren't just for fishing, many of us are collectors. This year I have fished more lures than any other time, but I'm still not close to using 25% of what I own. I'm sure that's the case with many of our members, and yet, we're still looking for the next new thing! : 8-) Quote
