I'm a big fan of the St.Croix Pro Glass myself. I've had a couple and they've been great rods. I fish mostly square bills to medium (10 feet and less) diving baits. Most cranking sticks at the price range you mentioned will be good rods though.

I bought a David Fritts Rod from a fellow angler for $40 used and in good condition that was $110 on *** I believe....I like it.

Might be worth putting it in your hands to see how it feels for you

St. Croix Mojo Glass, no joke. Great cranking rod for that price. I got the 7'8" MH/M and saved money to buy more deep divers.

So...we're just gonna leave that one alone? :P

What are your guys' thoughts on the new Shimano Compre cranking rod, anyone used one?

Light & Medium weight lures: Avid AVC70MM

Heavy & Deep Divers: Lamiglas SR705R

I own a BPS CarbonLite 7' M/M and a Powell 703cb glass. I love the CarbonLite for medium divers. It is sensitive enough to feel the bass inhale the bait, yet forgiving during the fight. The Powell is a heavy rated rod and handles deep divers and traps very well. My next cranking rod will be a Lamiglas SR705R!

I have a 7' MH St. Croix premier cranking rod and it's been great for me thus far. I got it from bass pro for $120

I've got the Mojo crankin' rod, but it is just a little beefy for me; I mostly throw square bills and shallow divers.

I did pick up the new Shimano Compre cranking rod recently, and I like it, a lot.

The mojo and premier series crankin' rods are great buys. A lot of my friends also like the Wright and Mcgill Skeet Reese S glass ones too. But you can't go wrong with the BPS Crankin Sticks. Great for cranks AND spinnerbaits/topwaters. Very light and more feel than pure fiberglass. I like the heavier fiberglass sticks for the heavier lures though (1/2 ounce or higher).

Bar none, one of the best buys for a deep crank stick is the Mojo Glass. It's a rod I would use only as a deep crank stick, though, it's not an all around crank rod.

One of the rods that don't get mentioned a lot is the Fenwick line.

If you can find a Techna AV consider it also. You may be surprised.

I own that same rod. It is a KILLER ROD!!! I like it because it is all graphite, so when I upgrade my hooks to one size bogger, I can get away with a stronger hookset (which I naturally have). It has more backbone than any glass rod out there, and I love than, because when I'm throwing a squarebill around wood or weeds, I can turn a bass' head away from the cover, whereas a glass rod would GIVE and GIVE and GIVE to the fish. I also dont notice more lost fish than fishing with glass rods.

BUY THE POWELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But you can't go wrong with the BPS Crankin Sticks.

I found one of these in 7'10" MH action used for $25 and its my favorite rod. I wish I had one for every reel save my finesse setup. I've used it for just about everything at one time or another and have yet to find anything I don't like it for.

Which is better, the BPS Crankin Stick or Shimano Compre Cranking?
