A-Jay I'm sure he'll do just fine. The AL central is pretty weak in the SPing department. This contract is just stupid. There was a soft market for Prince this winter, evidenced by the fact it took him this long to sign. Detroit came out of nowhere with this. What happens in a few years when Miggy, V-Mart, and Prince are all worthless in the field? Last time I checked there is only one DH. Quote

Miggy and Prince both have very few years left playing the field, unless they decide to get in shape. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted January 24, 2012 Super User Posted January 24, 2012 When Miggy came here he was a third baseman. It was Dave Dombrowski's idea to play him at first. We had no hitting from third base last year. In fact if the Tigers made it to the World Series last year, he was going to play there, and V. Mart was going to play first........Just a thought. Falcon Howdy Falcon; good to see you. I'm willing to bet Miggy plays third in interleague games this year. As far as the rest of the season, he'll probably split time at 1B/DH with Prince. As far as the following year(s), it's going to be a mess. I'm not sure how many more years V-Mart has left on his contract, and at 33 coming back from a torn ACL isn't easy. The Tigers may have to sacrifice defense on the left side in order to get Miggy and Prince in the lineup. I can't imagine Cabrera's defense at the hot corner for more than a few games. He's going to have to give up the sauce and get in shape. Lol. Either way, now with Prince as protection, I am definitely targeting Miggy in this year's fantasy draft. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted January 25, 2012 Super User Posted January 25, 2012 That would have been one heck of a lineup if V-Mart wasn't out for the year. This at least keeps Detroit in the converstion with NY, Boston, Texas, and the Angels. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted January 25, 2012 Super User Posted January 25, 2012 I agree, Miggy's defense isn't equal to Brandon Inge, but Inge hasn't hit his weight in the last three seasons.(.197 last year) Jim Leyland has proven to be a master placing his players, so we'll see. Falcon Quote

Falcon Very true, he's seen it all. The thing that blows my mind is the Tigers weren't even mentioned in Prince rumors...not even once. I've been following the story pretty closely all offseason, and the consensus was it was down to Washington, Texas, and Baltimore, with Seattle and Chicago occasionally mentioned. Rumor has it this signing came from ownership, not Dombrowski. One has to wonder if it is a $214 million knee-jerk reaction to V-mart going down. Also, doesn't Washington look like fools for signing Werth to that mega-contract last year? Quote
Sfritr Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 IMO Cabrera will go back to third, where he played in FLA. If the Tigers are smart, they will try to deal Inge for some minor league guys and have the two bats on the corners. I cannot believe Cabrera will enjoy splitting time at first? Although, it may give him more time to drink. Tigers are going to be a force this year!! They are here in Cincinnati in July for a 3 game series and I will be glued to a bleacher seat. It wil be remeniscent of the old "Kid Glove Games" when I was a kid. Not sure who I will root for though??? Go TIGERS/REDS Quote
