bigbassctchr101 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Where do you guys think the bass fishing capital would be? Why do you think that? Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted January 24, 2012 Super User Posted January 24, 2012 You could argue several locations. Off the top of my head, I can think Guntersville, somewhere in FL, and Lake Fork or somewhere else in TX Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 24, 2012 Super User Posted January 24, 2012 Falcon for green fish; Lake Erie for smalljaws! 2 Quote
piscicidal Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I'm going to say Clewiston, FL. What other city has a jumping bass hung up on every streetlight as its Christmas decoration? Quote
bigbassctchr101 Posted January 24, 2012 Author Posted January 24, 2012 See, I was going to say Tennessee/Alabama. Only because in TN there are all kinds of boat manufacturers, lure makers, pro fisherman, etc. But, it may be like that in a lot of different areas. I just think its neat that from Knoxville you can be on a major lake in 3 hours. Kentucky, Chic, Guntersville (3 plus a lil I think?), Dale Hollow, Douglas, etc. You can fish Northern Resevours, Lowland Resevours, River systems, rivers, clear, stained, grass, etc... I didn't know if other places were like that as well though... Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 24, 2012 Super User Posted January 24, 2012 My back yard. Every one of those blue spots has bass in it. http://g.co/maps/bwtcq Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 24, 2012 Super User Posted January 24, 2012 I won't claim Florida is the best, but it ain't bad. 100 yards from my back door is 1/4 mile of canal that holds 5-10# bass, those same kind of canals are just everywhere. I have 6 ponds, all of which hold good bass, and I've been to other areas in Florida that are way better than my honey spot. No smallmouth, but don't really miss them, we have peacocks. Not too many places where you can catch lmb, peacock, snook and tarpon all in freshwater, the Florida freshwater grand slam. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 24, 2012 Global Moderator Posted January 24, 2012 I guess it would depend on your requirements to make it the "Bass Fishing Capitol". I like green fish and brown fish so it would have to be somewhere with good access to both but there are several areas and even individual lakes that can claim that. If you were just going purely for big fish I'd have to say Falcon or one of the Cali lakes for green fish and Erie for smalljaws. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted January 24, 2012 Super User Posted January 24, 2012 It sure ain't St. Louis . Quote

It really does depend on your criteria for "Bass Fishing Capital". I will throw in California in the mix based on big ones caught out here. I'll have to give out a shout for Lake Castaic, just to name one. -b Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted January 25, 2012 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted January 25, 2012 Central Florida 1. Thousands of lakes to choose from. 2. Today was 80 degrees, partly cloudy with a light breeze. 3. Yesterday was 80 degrees. 4. The lowest forecast high for the next 10 days is 71 degrees. 5. I got a flip flop burn on my feet last Sunday. 6. Did I mention it is January? 3 Quote
Captain Obvious Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 You have three places in the running California, Texas, Florida One of these places has both Fork and Falcon and also is the home state of the Creme lure company and Bomber crankbaits. Also the most popular rig in bass fishing is named after this state. Problem solved! Capt.O Quote
Packard Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Smallmouth: St. Clair Shores(Lake St Clair), Buffalo(Erie), Traverse City(Grand Traverse Bay) Largemouth: New Orleans(Pontchartrain), Falcon(Falcon Lake), Guntersville(Guntersville Lake), Okeechobee(Lake Okeechobee) We have many great places to fish in the United States! Super User Bassn Blvd Posted January 25, 2012 Super User Posted January 25, 2012 Where? Florida. Why? That's just the way it is.. 2 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted January 25, 2012 Super User Posted January 25, 2012 It sure ain't St. Louis . It ain't Easton/Bethlehem, PA area either. Well, I will have to admit that if you can fish the Delaware River you can catch a lot of smallmouths. Usually not very big...22" being large, but I've read of 100 fish days. However.......I don't have a jet boat. Can't swim so I don't wade. Finding a place to legally fish from shore (without trespassing) is a PITA . Quote
Gangley Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Texas for 3 reasons: Falcon, Amistad, Fork Quote
CJ Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I would say somewhere in Texas. If I was thinking of the "capitol", I think it should feature a fishery where an angler could experience all the different techniques to locating and catching bass. Plus it would need to produce quanity and quality. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 25, 2012 Super User Posted January 25, 2012 Anywhere these two guys happen to be fishing ~ A-Jay Quote
NCbassmaster4Life Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I'd say florida would get the answer for your question, reason being florida stays warm all year round for the most part, and bass fishing is really insane in FL. Quote
wvbasshand Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I don't know yet, but it sure is fun looking!!! I've fished florida and texas, and there both fun as hell... I look forward to finding the answer to that question... going to give kissimmee chain a try this year, and then maybe falcon next year.... or el salto, which could possibly be the holy grail of buckett mouth fishing!!! Vinny Chase Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Any love for the land of 10,000+ lakes? Quote
scrutch Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Any love for the land of 10,000+ lakes? If you're a musky fisherman, absolutely. Greenies, and brownies, not so much. Not that it's bad, but because the others are so good! Quote
