Polarkraft05 Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 This doesn't really matter too much as my auction on ebay ends in a few minutes, but for future reference, What is a fair price to pay for used reels? 50% of retail?more less? obviously it will depend on the condition, but 9 times out of 10 the reel is rated at 9/10 ha ha, so when buying a reel off ebay (where you only have feedback to trust the sellers description) what is fair for a used reel at good used condition? the reels im bidding on right now are two shimano sahara, title says both 2500, but it appears one is a 3000. my max bid is 70 with 10 shipping, so if i win ill get two for the price of one. good deal? edit they sold for 81 plus 10 shipping, i didnt get them Quote
WCCT Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 I have kind of noticed that upper end Daiwa's and Shimano reels are the only ones that hold their value pretty good. With other brands I would shoot for 1/2 price on a used one. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 23, 2012 Super User Posted January 23, 2012 Do a search for completed listings and see what that reel has been selling for. Quote
bigbassctchr101 Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 I've got so many reels I don't need that I will not buy them unless its a steal! I have a bad habit of continuing to buy stuff I can't put a use to lol Especially on ebay I search for weird things. JM, Johnny Morris, J Morris, reel, bc, baitcaster, etc... You can find some awesome listings by changing up your search and spending time. The search can only find what is listed. So, if someone was to list a ShimOno Curado, nothing will pull up when searching curado 200e7. So, little mis prints and someone that doesn't list an item right can really mis out on the number of people that can view their item. So, the 3 E7 curOdo's I have were $57/each cuz compitition to bid was much less =D If one person is selling fishing items, I make sure to look at all of their items as well... You can get some great great great deals like that. There is EBAY Hunting 101, as far as finding comparable pricing, J Francho has it down. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 23, 2012 Super User Posted January 23, 2012 Since you are blowing it up, try searching for Diawas, LOL. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted January 23, 2012 Super User Posted January 23, 2012 That's how I got my Sols for <$100. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Ignorance really is bliss! lol Quote
dcorp Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 I picked up 50 packs of un open yamamoto senkos for $87 plus shipping by searching "sinkos". My high bid was $150 but no one was bidding on them. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 24, 2012 Super User Posted January 24, 2012 I'm looking at the OP for a used Sahara and bidding $70.......why? A new one isn't that much more. Bidding on a picture with an explanation of condition for me would be border line insanity, the guy that bought it for $81 is out of his mind imo, be happy you didn't win the bid. I don't buy anything used for personal use, if I did I would not pay more than 50% of the original price. My approach is from a business standpoint, not one of " having to have it". Many times buying something used is buying someones headache, for me not reason to take a chance. However the exceptions would be, can I fix it myself pretty cheap, or am I buying a collectors item that I plan on never using and the value exceeds the original msrp. Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 24, 2012 Super User Posted January 24, 2012 Looks like it is for 2 of them, in that case I think the $70 is about the max I would go, still prefer to buy new, but I know it's not it every ones budget. Quote
Polarkraft05 Posted January 24, 2012 Author Posted January 24, 2012 yes it was 2 of them, and my absolute max was 80 dollars. ive found a buy it now for 60 shipped on new ones, so ill probably go that route, but two for almost one price even being used is a good deal to me. Quote
gobig Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I have no problem buying used as long as its quality. That is how I got my calcuttas. If there is a problem with them its not that hard to find guys that work on them and if you are somewhat mechanically inclined its not that hard to do it your self. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I purchased my Energy PT casting used off ebay for $35 and it needed $25 worth of repair from quantum. I purchased my Catalyst PTi-b spinning reel off ebay for $60 because it was a display model but the store went out of business and the owner couldn't sell it as new but it was in brand new condition. I purchased a Catalyst Pti-a for $25 because the handle was bent and paid $12 (I believe) for a new handle and other than that the reel was brand new. I've purchased most of my reels off ebay or caught them on sale at cabelas and have saved on all of them with the exception of one which i purchased new. Quote

ChiCityBasser Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 let me guess... the Anti reverse wasn't working? The casting reel was grinding and actually needed a good cleaning and both the spinning models were fine. After replacing the bent handle on the one it was good as new. Haven't had the problem of the anti reverse not working. Quote
dcorp Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Oh I read that wrong, I thought it was the spinning model. I've bought a few broken quantum energy pti's for really cheap online. Everytime it was the anti reverse that was broken and it's only a $12 part. Quote
