hotrod Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Fished the Shenandoah today at Riverton. Water was clear (4+ ft.) and 44-45 degrees. Caught 12 smallies with the best 5 between 11-12lbs. Big fish was 19in 3.75lbs. It was an awesome day to be on the river! Quote

hotrod Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 nice fish quan. That is an interesting looking lure. is that home made? That is a scrounger jig. It puts a really nice wobble in your bait ie. fluke, grub, swimbait etc.... Quote
Chimborazo Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Went out to a pond yesterday after work for about 45 minutes just to get out. I caught one small bass on a shad spoon and UL rod/real, but that was the only hit I had. I still enjoyed it though. Does anybody know where I could find chain pickerel in the Richmond area? I've never caught one before and would love to try. Quote

Chimborazo Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Thanks Wayne. I thought that I heard there were some in the South Anna. I was thinking of parking at the ramp off of 33 and wading it when the weather warms up. Quote

quanjig Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Hotrod, I've only tried a couple different brands, strike king and J&S by Koblinsky , man I've giving up a lot here, lol! 1/2 oz. long bill. Me no likey the strike king! I'm also looking for an alternative to the Koblinksy cause they are tough to get in a hurry. I do have a nice supply tho! Nitro, thanks, 5 fish caught yesterday. 2 on the jb, 2 on the droppy, and the best fish on the scrounger. Might have done a lot better if I wasn't so dead set on finding them with the jb! Brick, thanks as well and im glad I was able to help you make the RIGHT decision and save a couple bucks on your BPS order!! Quote

After reading i looked up the J&S and they were going to be 5$+ each arter shipping. You arer not the first person who has not liked the Strike kings. Guess I will try them until I can try others. Thanks again for your input! Quote
quanjig Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 What size did you get?? I might be able to give you some hints and tricks to try. Quote
hotrod Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 What size did you get?? I might be able to give you some hints and tricks to try. 1/4 oz.- 3/0 and 3/8 oz. 3/0 I am fishing a local tx. on the Doah Sat. and thought the scrounger might come into play. Water is 45 and I found fish in 10-12 ft. flats. Your thoughts are much appreciated Quote
quanjig Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 What size bill? I usually use the long bill, I think that imparts the most action. Depending on the forage, I have had the most success with a full size fluke, the new disco colors with a dipped chartreuse tail. Count it down to the fish with the rod at about 10o'clock position every once in a while imparting a twitch, slowly reeling line. Good luck, let us know how you do! Quote

The way I rig it gives off that darting, dieing look! Dont think the Strike king offers different bills like the J&S Quote
