Super User Nitrofreak Posted November 7, 2012 Super User Posted November 7, 2012 Zoff, Can you go over the issue you had finding fish again, you had said in one of our conversations about locating a bait ball and not being able to catch fish that were around and under the bait ball. I remember most of the conversation but some of the details seem to excape me, would you mind repeting the problem again? Quote
Zoff Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 The original post... Recommendations On Sinking Jerk Bait... I also added some based on our talk. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted November 7, 2012 Super User Posted November 7, 2012 Thanks buddy !!! Quote
CPBassFishing Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Going out today at a farm pond I have not fished in a year. Last time I checked it had several 8 pounders and like twenty dinks, and hundreds of bluegill. I'm going to try slow rolling a swimbait. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 10, 2012 Super User Posted November 10, 2012 Fished the Historic James River out of Osborne Landing last Sunday. Started at 7:00 on a falling tide which fell really s-l-o-w and then hit the slack tide around noon and the incoming tide around 2:00. Trailered the boat at 4:00. Caught five, of which two were nice. Got one on a shaky head in the Barge Pit and the others on a Chartruse Sexy Shad around the jetties. It was COLD and overcast the entire day making the bass move all over the place. Going to Lake Chesdin next Sunday. That lake is down about three feet so the backs of the creeks and past Cattle Creek on the main lake are out of the equation. Hope they will be staging along the drop offs and main lake points so I can find them. May go out this coming week to a local lake and fish for about an hour if possible. That's all folks!!!! Quote
Zoff Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 SML today. Water temp about 58. Everything, when we finally found it, was in 40 to 80 feet. Wormed it and got one. Went to my flutter spoon and got some good strikes but never could get them up. Finally got it hung in 80 feet and lost it. That's when I noticed that the one I caught was not doing too well. It came from about 65 feet of water and had swim bladder problems. It finally went down but I decided not to risk another until I got something to relieve the air. Quote
Ozarksman Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Except in extreme circumstances, if you release those deep caught fish immediately they will be fine. They only begin to have problems when you keep them in your livewell for a while. Quote
Zoff Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 I agree but this one went right back in the water. I just hate killing if I am not going to eat it. Quote
OneFisher85 Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Nitrofreak... just come down here for the day and we'll get in enough fishing to last you a week. lol Heading out in about an hour and a half. Going to get in some river fishing in the jonboat. My usual trip is about 5.5 miles down the Staunton River from Altavista to my farm. About a 4 hour trip. Today, I decided to take the trip from Goose Creak down the Staunton to Altavista. It is just shy of 8 miles so it should take all day. Smallies mostly but there are some LM and walleye. I hadn't been down the river much this year since getting the new bassboat and that was one of my favorite ways to go. Very peaceful and serene. Really doesn't matter if I catch. Do you ever catch any stripers in the staunton? Ive thought about trying for them from goose creek down to altavista. Quote
Zoff Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Do you ever catch any stripers in the staunton? Ive thought about trying for them from goose creek down to altavista. Yeah... right here at my farm. I usually put in at the Town and come down to our place. I do the Goose Creek trip as well but, in a jonboat, it is a 10 hour trip. Great striper fishing when they run though. I didn't do the Goose last year and a friend told me they never made it past Altavista. Quote
OneFisher85 Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 i know alot are caught right below the dam. thats why i thought that stretch might be good. Quote
Zoff Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Usually is good. Last year was not the norm. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted November 15, 2012 Super User Posted November 15, 2012 Well, finally looking to get in some very much needed time on the water, I am so out of practice it's not funny, so Zoff don't laugh at me if I hook myself LOL !! Zoff, I look forward to fishing with you Saturday, it should be a lot of fun and I can't wait to see what you can teach me, Smith Mountain Lake sounds amazing with all of the different things you have told me so far, I can't wait to see it for myself, I looked at some of it on Google but somehow I just don't see it doing the lake any justice, one cove had some really good looking amounts of lay downs, one has a ton of boat docks, one has some really good looking rocky features, it seems no matter where I looked there were lots of possibilities. I am going to rig up my rods tonight and double check everything, I will see you on Saturday morning bright and early sir !!! Quote
Zoff Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Awesome! SML can be stingy but, if you hit it right, can yield some amazing fishing. If we have a slow day and want to go elsewhere... I have access to several other places that would only knock an hour off the day. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted November 15, 2012 Super User Posted November 15, 2012 At this point brother, I don't care if we don't catch a darn thing, I have not been on the water since the meet and greet, I need the practice anyway, fishing with Traveler I hit most of my targets and I hit targets I ment to miss, and I missed the fish that hit their target, the ol' brain needs the excersize as well as the spirit, I just look forward to getting on the water and knocking off the rust and see if I can catch a 5lb'er or two LOL !!! I will just settle for being on the water. 1 Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted November 19, 2012 Super User Posted November 19, 2012 Zoff, Thank you so much for this past weekend, Saturday was a day I will not forget for a long, long time, you have an absolutely beautiful family and all of them made me feel right at home, you and your family's hospitality was more than anyone could ever ask for. It was refreshing to hear how much you all did together as a family, I look forward to the next time and hopefully getting our families together to enjoy a day or two together as well. As for the fishing, SML even though 6 feet low and windy as all get out, was still a great place to fish, we only managed two, one I wish we did have a scale but I think we both agree that if it was not over 3lbs it was right there at it, Beautiful fish, the other roughly in the 2lb range still a very nice fish, both of us had one get away from getting under some cover and leaving us snagged in the end, which ironically I feel sure would have been our two biggest fish of the day. I look forward to the next visit to SML and I hope to fish with you again, you put us on some really good fish and I learned a ton !!! Again, Thank you and your family for a truly awesome day !!!!! Quote
Zoff Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 My family felt the same about you and feel the same about getting together. You are a true gentleman and made my Wife even more proud of her cooking. My Daughter talked nonstop about you and some of the things you mentioned about your family... especially your Daughters. She hopes to meet them someday. Angela said that you said if we can ever get together... you'd be the one in the kitchen and Mrs. Nitrofreak would be in the armory playing with the toys. We can do both, ya know. Like you implied... SML was not totally "unkind" to us. You had many good strikes so that can say alot. Learned a ton? Well... that is too kind. I think you learned I can't fish jigs. You taught me what to look for so I will be trying that this weekend. I had a true blast my Friend. Cheers!!!! Quote

SON OF A !!!!!!!!! Yes I would definatly be in the kitchen with your wife, if I could learn to cook half as good as that girl, I would concider myself an accomplished chef, but non the less still a sou chef next to her cooking !!!!! Tell her I would like to try cooking something Itilian if we should ever get the opportunity to do that again for me please. Learned a ton?, yes, a ton, maybe you were not paying attention to what I was, and it did not have everything to do with fishing either, also I lost something there.... RIP my Redskins cap LOL !!! I still say you yanked it off my head and stuffed it with weight as quick as that thing sank LOL !!!, it reminds me of the season they are having anyway SUNK !!! 1 Quote
Zoff Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 SUNK! Yeah... that piece of cloth went down faster than a submarine with a screen door. I have never seen anything disappear faster. Use that cap leash I gave you. It works better than the collar clips BP sells. It is a little more elaborate but will work better. BTW... you left a "Skins" shirt in the truck. PM me your address and I will get that 2 you. Quote

Jacob Krahenbil Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 ive been to lake Anna multiple times and haven't had much luck Quote
Zoff Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Did Leesville Lake today. Water was around 54 and very low. Was not spectacular with any one lure type but caught 5 LMB (2 to 5 pounds) and 4 Stripers (8 to 12 pounds). The LMB's were on jigs with craw trailers, silver/blue rattletrap, and one on a chartreuse spinner. All the Stripers were on an A-Rig until I hung the bottom and broke it off. Everything was caught in 25+ feet of water and almost all were hovering above the bottom about 5 feet. Again with Leesville... debris everywhere. Quote
