RAMBLER Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 I would like to see all "soft bait" or plastic worms, etc. that all fishermen use to be made in America. I know that some of the most popular plastic is made outside the US. I have quite a bit of it, but I have been checking, locally and found that I can find the same style and colors, that I use, made in the US. Maybe, we could have a place, here, to list all of the US manufactures of plastic lures, including large maufactures and the little local shops. It's my opinion, and a lot of others, that we need more "made in America" products and therefore more jobs. I really think we should all stop using the most popular foreign made plastic. If they want to sell their product in the US, then set up a factory here and employ local people. Bassfishing is a great American sport. Why shouldn't we go all America and use American made products to pursue our American sport. It would be great, someday, to be able to buy all our tackle made in the US, including soft baits, hard baints, rods, reels, line, hooks, electronics, etc. Quote
JIGFISHERMAN. Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Lots of soft plastics are made in the USA. Including from some big name manufacturers-Zoom, Yum, Strike King etc. The problem is finding hardbaits that are made in USA Quote
hookset on 3 Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 I'm all for it! Here are a couple of soft plastic companies I give my business to, that are made in the Great U.S. of A. Lunker City Netbait Poor Boys Zoom Quote

This is a discussion that really isn't fitting for a fishing forum, and I'm struggeling to keep my fingers/mouth closed Quote
IneedAnewScreenName-972354 Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 You can add our company to the made in the USA column. Quote
WCCT Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Isn't Yamamoto made in Arizona? Another small company that sells probably more dropshot baits than any other up here in the Pacific North West is Sniper Lures. They are made right here in Washington. Quote
gobig Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Quite some time back I made a similar post and there was not a whole lot of response. I buy what ever I can that is made in the USA with out sacrificing the effectiveness of the bait. Roboworm Reaction Innovations Yamamoto Big Bite Gambler basstrix Zipper worms Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 23, 2012 Super User Posted January 23, 2012 IMO supporting only American made plastic baits would not dramatically affect the lack of American manufacturing jobs, I believe that industry is just too small. Not that I disagree with only buying American made products, but to be to true to that conviction I'd have to give up buying foreign made rods and reels as well. It may be one thing to spend an extra 50% on a bag of worms for a few bucks, but how about spending 50% more on larger ticket item like a $200 rod or a $200 reel( many peeps spend much more than that). I really don't see too many people wanting to do that so their next door neighbor can go to work, it's a selfish world. Who wants to trade their Shimano in for an Ardent? And for the record I do use an Avet reel, made in America. To address the real problem is to take this thread into an area that is a forbidden topic. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted January 23, 2012 Super User Posted January 23, 2012 Most of the plastic we get comes from foreign oils... Quote

Buying a made in USA rod isn't as hard as you would think..... A real is a different story. For me anyway. Their really hasn't been any reel produced in the US, in the past. So it's not like Shimano/Daiwa/Pure Fishing reels showed up and pulled business away from the US builders. Lures and even line on the other hand has. As I posted earlier though. LOTS of soft plastics are made in USA even from big brand companies like Strike King, and Berkley. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted January 23, 2012 Super User Posted January 23, 2012 What is made in America? Not my GMC pickup. It was made in Mexico. Hopefully without being political, here goes. When were electronic devices, be they televisions, radios, computers, recording devices, etc., last made in significant numbers in America? What about shoes, furniture, textiles, and clothes? You can buy fresh fruits and vegetables year round. When I was a kid, produce was a seasonal product. Apples in the fall, oranges in the fall/winter, grapes, peaches, plums in the summer. It is now possible to ship produce around the world and deliver it to the supermarket shelves. Unheard of when I was a kid. Communications are instant. Business moves, literally, at the speed of light because of computers. Another factor, world markets have changed dramatically. That necessitated businesses to adapt to changing markets in order to compete and survive. When I was a kid, America was an island when it came to manufacturing and consumption. Overseas competition regardless of wages and regulations just was not practical because of shipping considerations alone. That has all changed. In spite of that, foreign auto companies have found it not only practical, but profitable to manufacture vehicles here. There are several reasons that has happened, but the prime reason is that as these companies grew in the home countries, their labor forces were no longer satisfied to work for "low wages". Costs of production increased in those countries, and no doubt their governments viewed them as a source of revenue as much as a source of jobs. Add transportation costs, and it became practical to open plants in America. Isolationism may have been fine in the past. It's a recipe for disaster today. 1 Quote

I have instructed my wife never to give me anything from Viet Nam. I guess it is because I had the opportunity to visit the place back in the 60s and do not have the best memories of the place. It is beautiful and the people are very nice (when they are not trying to blow you up) but I just don't want anything from Viet Nam. I have no problems with any other country. We try to buy American products when we can but with so many products being manufactured or put together overseas it is difficult. Even baseballs are made outside of the USA. Go figure?
