Hyrule Bass Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Has to do with my native american tribe, Haliwa-Saponi. Haliwa is the general location where the tribe is located now, HALIfax and WArren counties in NC. Saponi means Red Earth people. We have the largest and oldest pow-wow in North Carolina. Anyone close by Halifax or Warren counties in NC should check it out sometime. its coming up soon in April, actually theres a smaller winter pow-wow this weekend i believe... Quote
avid Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 A long time ago me and a bunch of guys who fished the same lake were standing around just bs'n Not too many of the guys knew each other but they all knew me. That led one of them to remark "man, you are the most avid fisherman I've ever seen" Name sorta stuck. Quote

I like your choice Red Earth. Some tradition and pride. Cool. Much better than mine. Everybody at the Bass Resource RoadTrips pronounces my screen name to rhyme with potty. I've given up and accept it. It's supposed to be pronounced this way; gh as in rough o as in women ti as in nation 1 Quote

Super User Lund Explorer Posted January 24, 2012 Super User Posted January 24, 2012 I chose my user name so that it was easy for people to recognize me. Example: At last year's roadtrip I was sitting on my cabin's porch enjoying a tall and frosty when Long Mike arrived. He stopped in front of the cabin, looked at me, looked at the boat, looked back at me, and called me by name. It's gratifying when you can help out the old folks! Quote

Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted January 24, 2012 Super User Posted January 24, 2012 I've had my name since 8th grade. When my friends found out that my family was from Malta, they started calling me "The Maltese Falcon" . Falcon 1 Quote
Wachati Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 "Wachati" is actually a verb, created on a fishing trip in the keys by my saltwater partner in crime, Capt. Jim Sullivan. I was unable to make this trip but that didn't keep me from hijacking the term as my username . The fishing had been great during this trip and one day before heading out, my friend announced to everyone "Let's go Wachati some fish today!" The phrase caught on down there and everyone was saying it. When you got a fish on, yell wachati!! So since I am a bass guy I figured it was alright to claim rights to this in the freshwater world, and so I did... Wachati - "It is what it is". Quote
