Super User Sam Posted January 22, 2012 Super User Posted January 22, 2012 Heard on ESPN this morning that Coach Paterna is in serious condition. If you guys remember, the Bear lasted about three months after he retired. I know JoPa got fired but his accomplishments as a college football coach still set the bar for everyone else. As for what he did or not do regarding Sandusky, I think he followed the PSU protocol for these types of incidents and he did nothing wrong. I hope he gets better and stays with us for a little more time. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted January 22, 2012 Super User Posted January 22, 2012 He is now officially dead. I hope that he will be remembered for what he truly was and that his legend will not be tainted longterm by "what's his name." 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 22, 2012 Author Super User Posted January 22, 2012 So sorry to hear of his passing. He was a great guy who did a lot of wondeful things for college football, the university, State College and the players who he coached. Like the Bear, he passed away right after he retired. Now to pass the baton to Beemer at Virginia Tech. 1 Quote
Super User Root beer Posted January 22, 2012 Super User Posted January 22, 2012 The Bear actually passed away a month after his final game. I hope his legacy isn't tainted by the scandal after the dusk is settled. Beside the scandal, I've never heard any bad things about the Penn State program. Maybe I'm not looking enough? Condolence from the Crimson Tide Nation. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 22, 2012 Super User Posted January 22, 2012 85 is a long life and his was filled with great accomplishments, imo always putting education ahead of athletics. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted January 22, 2012 Super User Posted January 22, 2012 Jopa was & always will be remembered as a legend in collegiate sports. A true icon. Quote

Blue Streak Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 He was a good man and if I could pick any man on earth to spend a day with it would have been him. Joe Pa walked his talk. Rest in peace. Quote
