Got a few bucks for helping out the in-laws, I want a good scale. I have about $50 or so to spend. I would prefer one with the lip grip deal rather than the hook. Up to 15lbs would be fine. What would you recommend?

Thanks

The boga grip is very nice, but out of the $50.00 price range. There are many "knock-offs" out there now,but i'm not too sure about how valid the weight features are.

The boga can be sent in and calibrated and is an accepted device for weighing I.G.F.A. records. Mine has held up flawlessly in saltwater use for the past 4 years.

I found a boga-type gripper on the beach a few years ago and have used it quite a bit this past season when surfcasting,

but i see there is a lot of rust coming out of it when i flush it with wd-40..i haven't seen that on the boga.

Check the boards maybe for a used original boga?

i'd like to hear some opinions too about a decent $50 grip/scale..

The gripper part is not as important as accuracy. I was looking at the Accu Cull digital scale that TW carries. Any thoughts on it?

I'm going to take a look at that cliff,i need something to about 15# for next spring..i bought a rapala 15# digital scale[no gripper] from a clearance bin last year, just put a battery in it a few days ago,and it wont even turn on! Contacted the company and did get a quick reply so i was happy to see that.i'll send it back and see what happens.

I have had terrible luck with both Rapala and Berkley scales so I am steering clear of those. I am not tournament fishing or anything, I just want something to weigh my bigger catches. it would be nice to actually know the weight of my PB!!

My scales are Brass Chatillon Scales. I have a 6lb one that measures in 1oz increments for bluegill and a 15 lb one that measures in 4oz increments . The 6lb scale is IGFA certified. You can find them for around 60 bucks.

Once you go Boga, you never go back. Unless you don't have it attached to a flat and drop it over the side....

I've got one of each size now. I use the small one for bass fishing, while the others get stored in my saltwater boat for larger species. Such a fantastic tool. Well, well worth the extra cash you pay for it. I get mine certified at the start of each year just to make sure they're good to go. Thankfully, the IGFA is only a short ride away from me.

I am sure you like this scale. Are they easy to use and accurate i have caught some fish recently and questioned how accurate my hand held digital scales are

I keep a 12lb. certified Chatillon (2 oz. incr.) in the boat at all times for guaranteed accurate weights of larger fish. For just normal fun fishing or random tracking, I really like the new Rapala digital scales with the touch screen. Comes with a composite lip clip, tracks, culls and totals on-screen. Really fun, and so far, when compared head to head with the Chatillon, dead accurate. Can't speak to their long term accuracy or durability though.

I have the Boga 30#. Its a heavy duty, stainless, expensive but accurate to 1/2# incriments. I have a float on the wrist lanyard just in case it goes overboard. If i was to buy another Boga I would get the next size down.
