chromedog Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 With winter finally settling in, in upstate NY, I find myself getting itchy to restock all the items I went through and picking up new stuff to try. When do you guys find your self going through all the websites and fliers and going crazy? Who has good sales this time of year? Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 i dont keep alot in inventory, stuff like soft plastics i will pick up as needed for the most part. now if i make a special trip to BPS or Gander Mtn i am libel to buy a lot of stuff i didnt have or stock up on a couple things i really like that are hard to find locally... lavbasser Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Last year BTD had a 20 percent off sale in early Feb. Many of the retailers will have sales on major holidays. Thanksgiving sales might be the best. Quote
Super User webertime Posted January 19, 2012 Super User Posted January 19, 2012 Next big sale period is around President's Day. 15-20% off many oline retailers. BPS Spring classic sale is around the same time if my memory serves. Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 around the time of the classic most vendors will have a sale... Quote
telmomarques Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 i usually restock 2 months before my toruney start, it starts at april so i restock at feb Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 When last years stuff goes on clearence.. ....Funny but true, i just got through loading up on spinnerbaits , cranks, jerkbaits and line since Dicks is having there clearence sales mark down plus 50% off....Walmart should be right behind them and hopefully Academy and Sportsman warehouse will soon follow. 2 Quote
baluga Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Always on the look out for sale, restock when there's a good deal. Always buy a spare or backup to avoid paying the regular price when you need it. 2 Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted January 19, 2012 Super User Posted January 19, 2012 Always on the look out for sale, restock when there's a good deal. Always buy a spare or backup to avoid paying the regular price when you need it. This is exactly what I do. Find a deal on stuff I use, and buy a bunch of it. I also like clearance sales on last year's stuff. The fish don't seem to care when I'm using last year's tackle. I guess they don't read the same propaganda we do. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted January 19, 2012 Super User Posted January 19, 2012 If I find a lure or a color of a lure that is working, I'll get a spare 5 or 6 bags asap. If I find it on sale, that is nice, but that really doesn't figure into the purchasing decision. I'm addicted to buying fishing tackle and I know it. If I think it is the shape and action of the lure rather than the exact color, I'll buy several similar (or dissimilar) colors just to make sure. Every day I go without buying fishing tackle is a boon to my wallet. I've went as long as 3 or 4 weeks in the past without buying fishing tackle. I think my all time record is around a month and a half. What really bugs me is when I buy a bait on a whim, it stays in the boat for a while, and a year or so later I have a good day on it, and now there is no way, without going to a lot of trouble, that I'm going to get more of that bait. Case in point, several years ago, I went to West Point Lake, in Gerogia/Alabama, for a BFL Wild Card Regional. I bought 9 or 10 bags of a local, hand pour, senko imitation. Didn't use them during the tournament, wasn't really a senko kind of day. A couple of years later, these baits are still in the boat, I'm experimenting with texas rigged drop shot baits and I put one of these on, more for the thicker texture than anything else. Boom, fish on - over and over again. I go through a couple of bags. Now, I have to ration these baits, I don't see myself driving to West Point Lake anytime soon. I don't think there is a moral to this story, other than if you think a bait is going to catch a lot of fish for you, buy lots of them. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted January 19, 2012 Super User Posted January 19, 2012 Year round for me as well... if there's a big sale I'm likely to take"advantage" of it. Speaking of, I see a rod in the future during BPS' rod/reel trade in coming up next month. Quote
JIGFISHERMAN. Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 I've pared down my selection a bunch. It just simplifies things a bunch IMO. One thing I will never do again, (and haven't for a few years) is buy things just because they are on sale. There are some colors that feel just do not work, and some I will never use. There is no point in buying this stuff just because it is cheap. Quote
The Guy Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 All the time whether I need it or not, I think I have a problem Quote
scrutch Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Way too often. The 24/7/365 post pretty much says it all. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted January 19, 2012 Super User Posted January 19, 2012 Well, except for some staples (gulp worms and chiggercraws) which I buy anytime before I might run out, I purchase most of my gear in the winter months to keep from going completely out of my head. Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 19, 2012 Super User Posted January 19, 2012 Chromedog, I restock when Green Top, Gander Mountain, BPS have their sales and at the Richmond Fishing Expo. I also visit a distributor and get my plastics from him during the year. I take inventory as to what I need over the Christmas to New Year week. I have my list ready for the Richmond Fishing Expo and Green Top and will be watching for the BPS and Gander Mountain sales. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted January 19, 2012 Super User Posted January 19, 2012 I restock as needed. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted January 19, 2012 Super User Posted January 19, 2012 I do most of it from Black Friday til ice out then as needed. As I type this, I'm going broke and the sooner the ice melts the better. Quote
Fat-G Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Year round, but more recently I got EXTREMELY organized with my three baits for 2012, dropped down to a whopping two combos, and dropped close to 1K on baits, line, hooks, etc. Quote
RiverFisher13 Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 I buy most during the winter. I will buy plastic all through the season and will pick up a crank if its something i dont have and a need for it arises (which means i kick my self for not having it before) Quote
NCbassmaster4Life Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 I stay stocked up on most of my go-to baits, so if im in a situation out on the water, it's no problem. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted January 20, 2012 Super User Posted January 20, 2012 To start restocking would require you to stop first, right? Then I cant answer this. Quote
NCLifetimer Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 To start restocking would require you to stop first, right? Then I cant answer this. +1 to that. If i run out of terminal tackle or lose a favorite lure ill buy another. I'm regularily trying new worm types/colors. Not as much as some people, but enough I'm sure. Quote
