I had mojo bass I hated it, it was heavy and non sensitive, I know the big crankster model is super heavy I was considery: dobyns savvy, duckett and an 8' powell endurance, I really prefer micro guides for cranking Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 savvy nice rod, but think longest rod is 7'3. My buddy has the Duckett 7'6 med and loves it for crankin!! Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted January 18, 2012 Super User Posted January 18, 2012 THe Mojo Glass is one of the best rods out there in that length and category. It's glass, you're not really concerned with the sensitivity of the rod, it's going to transmit the bait wel enough, and banging structure; you don't need to worry about ultra-light bites. Either the Mojo or like DVT said, a build rod. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 19, 2012 Super User Posted January 19, 2012 Look for a 2011 or older St Croix 7'10" Legend tournament "Magnum Cranker", you might be able to find a new one for that price as St Croix closed them out and re-vamped the LT Line for 2012. It's my deep cranking rod, and I can't think of any bad things to say about it. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted January 19, 2012 Super User Posted January 19, 2012 I bought a 7'10"M Carrot Stix Gold at the end of the season two years ago when TW clearanced them for $130. It quickly became my deep crank rod and is well suited for it. I would suggest one if you could one somewhere. As for current production rods, I like the BPS Crankin Stick for the price and for under$170 I'd suggest the Lucky Craft 7'6"H Long Cast SP. I have the 7'MH and really like it for mid-deep cranks. You don't hear much about the Lucky Craft rods but they are well worth the $150 price tag. Quote
quanjig Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 I have the mojo 7'8" and had to try it with a few different lines before I really started loving it. Try it with a quality floro 10-14lb. I think you might be pleasantly surprised. Quote
nwibass Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 Guys, im not getting a heavy junk mojo. Theyre so heavy.... Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 19, 2012 Super User Posted January 19, 2012 Guys, im not getting a heavy junk mojo. Theyre so heavy.... Then you should think about something other than glass. All the glass deep cranking rods I've tried are heavy. I'm not sure why you are married to 7'8", that seems weird. I use an Avid AVC70MHM for deep cranking. I don't feel like I need a longer rod to make long casts, and it's plenty light. Quote
nwibass Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 7 8 or longer bud, 7' is way too short for what im doing, I need to get down super deep Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted January 19, 2012 Super User Posted January 19, 2012 How Is a longer rod going to get you any deeper? Quote
nwibass Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 How Is a longer rod going to get you any deeper? Length = further casts (debatable) giving the lure more time to dive, length also = putting the rod into the water and the longer the rod the further you can put it into the water therefore the deeper your crankbait is going to go. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 19, 2012 Super User Posted January 19, 2012 It's basically the same length of cast, but with SLIGHTLY less effort with a longer rod. Most of the longer rods I've tried have terrible balance, and cause fatigue after an hour or so. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted January 19, 2012 Super User Posted January 19, 2012 With your criteria in mind, you should go with the Duckett. It's 7'11", graphite (light), has micro guides, gets great reviews, and costs .01 less than your max budget. Perfect match. Quote

I may get a 7'6" rembering how horrific balance is.... my carrot stix(7'6" heavy balances OK with a 200E i think i want to put a sx or stx on it Quote

Thats probably what i will go with... if i go with a 7 6 ill get a duckett MH they all have pretty soft tips Quote

Your going about things all wrong! It has nothing to do with the rod you use you need to fix your bait!!! I made this just for you. It will cast farther and dive deeper! I just tie it to my best Snoopy pole and it's a new PB every cast! BTW, I do like Snoopy poles for Crankbaits AS they are a glass rod with a moderate flex... 1 Quote

quanjig Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 So wait, I'm a bit confused. You are gonna be deep cranking with your rod in the water........... Why on earth are you concerned with the weight? Quote
nwibass Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 So wait, I'm a bit confused. You are gonna be deep cranking with your rod in the water........... Why on earth are you concerned with the weight? LOL. Do you even fish? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 20, 2012 Super User Posted January 20, 2012 Do you? Never heard of kneel and reel for depth? Quote
Packard Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 LOL. Do you even fish? He is saying that if your rod is submerged the weight won't matter much. A lot of knowledgeable people are giving you spot on advise and you are mocking them. It already sounds like you know what you want so don't waste the time of others making a buch of topics then throwing their ideas out the window. Quote
quanjig Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Actually, yes, I fish quite well thanks. Yes J, I fully understand kneel and reel. I guess a better question would be how often you fish deep cranks? I mean truthfully, sounds like you know what you want, but at the same time you don't. Glass rod, composit rod, graphite rod and all the others. Do you have an ideal how each type of rod will react with the bait and line combinations? I'm just trying to help you make an informed decision, I've only been fishing about 3 times as long as you have been in this earth lol! Quote
