Fluorocarbon, Do You Fill The Entire Spool?

For the folks who use Fluorocarbon, do you fill the entire spool with FC or do you use a filler and top it off with 100 yards or so with FC?

Well Im going do do both. On my 50E will spool all fluoro from a 200yd spool then the rest will go on a Supreme XT 30 with filler.

I fill with a backer then put the Flouro on. I usually put 40-60 yards of flouro on, depending on application(less for t-rig, more for crankbait). If i've used the first 40 yards of line up, its time to replace for me because of diminished casting distance.

If im using something along the lines of Yo-Zuri, or a cheaper line, I always spool all the way. But with the nicer lines $20 < X I only put about 50-60 yards on, with some 20# Stren HighImpact, simply because I like the blue color, and when I see blue I know I need to add more line.

I always use backing. I guide and I have 28 rods in my boat so it could cost me alot of money if I didn't back fill.

I fill the entire thing and use line conditioner it will last you a whole season if you have line conditioner handy at all times.

I have 50 to 75 yards of flouro on top, backing underneath. The amount of flouro is determined by the quantity on the filler spool and the intended use for that reel. A 150 yard spool I might divide into either 50 or 75 yard increments, a 200 yard spool might be divided into 3 or 4 increments, a 125 yard spool into 2, etc.

I nearly always fill a reel initially. IE: The first time I ever put line on a reel, I fill it. From there forward, I typically split fluorocarbon into 50 yard lots and use the 50 yards as my guide in terms of adding line to a reel. I know, generally, where the marker is that I need to add, and I know how much or how little I need to peel to get to that max fill. The exception is on my cranking reels, spinnerbait reels, and two braid reels. I put 100 yards on crank and spinnerbait reels, and usually 75 yards of braid. My absolute largest pet-peeve is feeling a joining knot on the spool so I'll always have enough line to cover at least a cast and a half if not slightly more than that.

I back my reel with cheap mono up until about 1.5 to 2 cast lengths. Then I fill the rest with flouro until the reel is filled (about a 1/4 to 1/8" shy of the edge of the spool)
