Eddie Berndt Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Hey guys i will be purchasing a boat this spring and i was planning on getting a 2011 Nitro Z-8 with a 250 Mercury, 2 power poles, 10" jack plate, remote oil fill, Hummingbird 998 for the bow and dash, CD player, Hot Foot, and a Minn Kota 101lb thrust trolling motor. And thats just the custom add-ons. And the price i got was $47,840.00. The 2012 Nitro Z-9 with all the same add-ons is $50,540.00. And my question is why is the price so close for a newer boat and the bigger Z-9? Thanks for reading this and i hope to get back to you guys shortly. Quote

Super User Fishing Rhino Posted January 16, 2012 Super User Posted January 16, 2012 I'll hazard a guess, that the options, or at least some of them, are being added to an existing Z-8 since you cannot have a 2011 boat built to your specs. That makes those add ons more expensive than if you ordered a boat to be built with those options. Even though many of the options on an ordered boat will be installed by the dealer, they will cost less than if you brought in a boat and had the dealer install them. It's much cheaper to order or buy a new vehicle with the options than to have a dealer install them after delivery, not as a part of the original sales agreement. Quote

I think Nitro does that to give guys the option of keeping the price down on the Z-8. If you're looking at a new 2011 Z-8, now is the time to buy it with Tracker's special 35th Anniversary deals. You will get a $1,000 gift card, a BPS VIP purchasing card, and extra two years motor warranty and if you buy a new 2011, 20,000 Rewards points. By the way, I have a 2011 Z-9. Quote

But just thinking in the long run ill be happier with the Z9. So in february i will be completing my order and should be able to pick it up by late march or early april. I CANT WAIT Quote

Super User South FLA Posted January 19, 2012 Super User Posted January 19, 2012 Always go with a BIGGER boat, I am sure you can have them meet you halfway or try to bring down the cost so its within your range. Also, I know that a new boat is tempting and nothing beats the feeling, smell, and knowing that only you used it, but for that kind of COIN you can get some boats that are just as good or maybe better than Nitro with equivalent and better accesories still under warranty. I didn't get a rig like that until I was 68 years old, and it is a Z-7. To be fair, until July of 2008, I hadn't fished freshwater for about 35 years. I'm just as happy fishing out of my canoe on smaller ponds. Quote

Super User Hooligan Posted January 29, 2012 Super User Posted January 29, 2012 That'll make a great ride for sure. All you Naysayer's saying go big- hushup. The Z8 with a 250HPDI on it is a FAR better ride than the Z9, imo. It's faster, more stable on plane and has better handling characteristics than the Z9. You're losing SO very little by dropping to the 8 versus the 9. That's a grand total of 8 inches. Both are still 96" beam, both have mega storage, The Z8 has a better thrust to weight ratio with a 225 than a Z9 with a 250. My next ride, no doubt about it, is going to be a Z8. I'd like to sell my Triton, but have one more year with it due to "obligations" and that doesn't mean payments. Quote
