ohiobassmaster93 Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Hello everyone im new to the forums and have alot of questions 4 u guys so I would like to thank everyone know. So my first question is what kind of jigs and what kind of worm works best 4 the shaky head style of fishing Thanks ohiobassboy Quote
Fishin49er Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Welcome Aboard!!! I just a basic football head jig with a screw type worm holder from BPS. As far as worms go I use the Zoom Trick worms, but any straight tail finesse type worms would work. Quote
.Paxamus. Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 We have been pouring our own- they are 1/4 ounce with a 4-0 hook, using 4inch finesse worm from Zoom. No matter what jig head style you use, whether it be football, wedge, or ball, try to get the longest shanked hook you can. The longer shank helps with hookset on cold weather soft striking bass. Since going with the longer shanked hook, it has improved our hook ups greatly. I loved the Chompers with the standup head, but hook was too short, plus the great thing about pouring your own is that each jig head becomes cheap enough that you don't mind loosing a couple. By the way those jig heads with the screw in them are great just a little more expensive. Quote
Papa_Tom Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I use ball-head jigs for this. The two that I use are 1) The Luck E Strike that is available at WallyWorld and ...2) Davis Shaky head with long shank hook. Most often I add a HitcHiker corkscrew, attaching it to the eye or the stem of the hook. Jelly Worms, Trick Worms, finesse or some type of floating worm. Always straight tail for me. Others like Spot Removers, Spot Stalkers, Spot Stickers. I recently bought some Omega Savior jigs. More of a pointed head, stand-up with a screw built in. Hope to try these next week. Quote
bassmaster8100 Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 The shaky head setup I find most sucess with is the ball head jig, with a Yum 4 inch finese worm, colors vary depending on the time of the year and conditions of course. Shaky head style will catch you alot of fish or has for me anyway. Quote
The Duke Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Does anyone have any reviews of the Tru-Tungsten jigheads that Iaconelli promotes? Quote
Hawgin Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Does anyone have any reviews of the Tru-Tungsten jigheads that Iaconelli promotes? I recently bought some at Cabelas in the bargain cave, but I've only had them out a few times. I really like the ball buster jig heads, but I was not overly impressed with the weed wackers. The tungsten heads give you the same advantage with these that they do on the weights. More sensitive and smaller. The hooks seem pretty good. No complaints yet, but I haven't given them a full workout yet either. Quote

senko_77 Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Does anyone have any reviews of the Tru-Tungsten jigheads that Iaconelli promotes? The tungsten alone adds a ton more sensitivity, but the real advantage in the Ikey Heads in the bend in the hook. It's awesome at keeping the bait tight up against the head when you skip docks or cast sharply. I mainly use the Ball Buster in 1/8oz because it has a 60 degree line tie. It's more suited for shaking, and I beleive an angled line tie hooks more fish. The Weed Wacker and Ikes Spike is basically a T-rig that has the weight pegged if you look at it closely. If I use those, it's really for the worm keeper. Quote
ohiobassmaster93 Posted March 1, 2007 Author Posted March 1, 2007 thanks for all the information on this but one more thing is where do u guys use this style. on the in the middle of the lake or fishing the bank(witch is where i fish the most where i go) Also if anyone fishes at lake loramie in ohio i would really like some advice for that lake. flyphisher # Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Bite me Heads are the best I have used, . Spotsticker makes some good ones too. Use them anywhere according to what lb test line you are fishing them with. Caught fish on 1/8 and 1/4 in open water and brush. I really like them around rock and wood when the fish will not bite anything else. Good around docks too. Quote
Hawgin Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 thanks for all the information on this but one more thing is where do u guys use this style. on the in the middle of the lake or fishing the bank(witch is where i fish the most where i go) Also if anyone fishes at lake loramie in ohio i would really like some advice for that lake. For me it's not a question of where I use them, but more when to use them. I will try a shaky head anytime the bite gets tough. During a cold front in the spring and fall, during the hottest times of the summer when fish are in slightly deeper water, basically anytime they will not bite anything else. For me they are a sort of a "last resort" bait that I use all the time. I hope that makes sense to everyone else like it does to me. Quote
Blue Streak Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 What ever you do make sure you buy a true floating worm. Most of them are not. The best might be Strike King Triple X. I am using tungsten jig heads. Quote
