My Shimano Sedona has not been working right for a while and its just been sittin in my garage cause i havent dont anything with it yet. I was taking it apart to see if i could figure somethin out and when i took the spool off i noticed that it is missing a metal ring(?) that goes inside the spool which you can see in this pic i took of another reel i have that has the ring(?) in place. My reel acts fine until i get a lure in the water and start to reel in. It's like im reeling in a boat from the bottom of the lake when im retrieving the lure. Could this missing part cause this? Thanks guys!

I don't see anything missing there. The clip holds the drag pads in place.

Sounds like you have something in the reels rotor binding or line wrap around the rod tip or guide...

Send it to Mike (DVT)...........

The pic is of a different reel. I was just showing the part that is missing so it was better understood what i was trying to explain. I am speaking with him via email. Thanks!

The part you have pictured here is a drag washer and if that's missing it will cause problems. There may also be a retaining clip that's missing and allowed the washer to fall out. Shimano only lists the spool assembly on the schematic and may not sell just the washer. I'll check and see.

The retaining clip is the thin ring that sits on top of the washers under the drag knob? Cause i am deffinitely missing it. The schematic you sent me does not show the drag washers. Like you said they just sell the spool assembly. Can i purchase this directly from you or Shimano? I am fairly confident that the problem lies within the spool assembly mainly the washers and retaining clip.

While every part serves a purpose and the retaining clip should be replaced, the spool really just holds the line and shouldn't affect the retrieve. The bail just guides the line as it wraps onto the spool. I suspect something else is binding. It really is difficult to diagnose sight unseen. The cost of a service is $16.20 for forum members plus shipping. I do not stock OEM parts for resale but here is Shimano's contact:

I've had line get caught in the roller on the bail in a couple of shimano spinners, check that the screw is tight. This makes it feel just as you said when you reel line in.
