shoreline fishing with cranks

just started fishing with cranks but need one's that are best for shallow fishing cause i shoreline fish.any suggestions?   thanks

Bandit footloose and series 100. For 4' to 6' try the Bandit flat maxx shallow or H2O crankin shad.

What kinda baitfish/forage are in your lake/pond..? Get cranks to match them. You can get shallow divers, i.e. 1 to 3' depth for shore fishin..check with some of the sites vendors or TW...I fish from shore alot, and while I don't throw many cranks, I do toss em now and then, haven't lost 1 in almost 4 months.. ;D

Also consider the wide square billed cranks, you can bounce em off almost anything, cept Heavy weeds.

Which ones depend greaty on the slope degree and the type and ammount of cover available.

Fot the better part of my life I fished from shore, I still do it a lot ( when there 's nobody to help me cartop the boat ); so I say it depends on those two factors which cranks you can fish with and which ones you shouldn 't.

If the place you fish doesn 't have a steep slope you are limited to a certain point to lipless cranks, super shallow, shallow and mid running cranks, but that would also depend on how much cover.

If the place you fish has a steep slope then you can, along with the previous, fish with deep divers if the cover allows it.

So it depends, some of the lakes I fish near my home town have steep slopes and I fish a lot with deep divers, other lakes I fish don 't have that steep slope and there 's no point in fishing them with deep divers, I limit my cranks to the ones I mentioned.

I also fish from shore, here are some of my favorites:

Daiwa peanut, Change the hooks. The stock hooks are terrible.

Strike King (I forget which one it is but it has a square bill and dives 1-3 feet)

 Try crankin' a Storm SubWart, or a Mann's 1-Minus. These are great wakebaits, but they work good for crankin' overtop of or into cover. I've used the Sub-Wart, and my fishing partner has used the Mann's, and we've both done good. Send me a pm and I'll see if I can tie you up some feathered/hair trebles, as they add more action to the bait. I can't promise anythin', but I'll try

If u want to invest in a lure that will catch u fish while crankin buy the lucky Craft BDS its a proven preformer in my neck of the woods and worth the money. Other lures that i will put on is the bandit 100s and norman fat boys. Good luck.

Rapala orginal floater 2" blue/white

Bomber Fat A in redcraw, baby bass, greencraw or brown craw

Manns baby 1 in brown craw

Bass Pro Shops Topnocker #25 color

1/8 oz spinnerbaits in silver / white blue glimmer skirt with a mepps/mister split double tail trailer.

1/8 oz spinnerbait in gold / chartruese skirt with a chartruese split double tail trailer.

A carolina 1/8oz rig with senko's, BPS sticko's  24" leader

10" or 12" culprit worms black shad.  I've had 13" bass strike the 12" worm.

You can also use the cranks that float topwater too.

YUM scent, craw scent, bass scent or shad scent helps out too.

I also shore fish most of the time and we use a portable fishfinder "hummingbird" the one you cast out the transmitter and read the reader like a wristwatch. I really like it for mapping out the bottom and finding the dropoff's, the flats and the rocky points(dropoff too). Shore fishing is awesome when you figure it out.

Remember the fish are feeding near the shore line in low light conditions. My best times have been in the early mornings, early evenings and at around 10pm the bite turns on again. Just be stealthy and very quiet when bass fishing the big gals spook really easy.

Strike King 1XS which runs I think 1-3ft in Gizzard Shad and also in Sexy Shade.

This is pretty much my go to shallow lure since the weeds have grown up in most of the lakes and ponds I'm fishing. Depending on how I hold the rod I can run it just about the weeds and it has worked pretty well for me.

I am a firm believer in Bandits either Foot loose, 100 or 200, depending on your depth. There are a few craw patterns I prefer and the chartruse splatterback are good.

Started using some of the Sexy Shad Strike Kings...so far so good.

From shore I use the Red Eye shad and the 1XS and 4S from Strike King. Your gonna hang cranks, So I stay with the cheaper cranks when I fish from shore. But I will throw the Lucky Craft RC wake bait and the Wake Shad from Strike King.

Im in the same shoes as you. I also bank fish and the lake/ponds I fish are primarily 1-4foot waters. For shallow cranks there is only one that works well for me, meaning not cleaning the bottom every cast, and that is the LuckyCraft Fat CB BDS 1. I adjust how high I hold the rod by where my bait is, you'll figure out what I mean when your fishing.

As for lipless cranks, the Mini Rat-L-Trap works nice, and the Luckycraft LV-0 is a lipless crank every shore fisherman should own IMO. It is basiclly a lipless style crankbait with a lip, but despite how you fish it the thing seems to stay in the middle of the water column and rarely catches any weeds, it is a miracle crank for bank fisherman..truly unique.

Unfortunately I have only been fishing shallow crankbaits since last year, so I have yet to try too many different brands, therefore the list of baits I suggested I'snt too long. I can tell you this though, the Rapala, Bagley, and Bomber cranks work nice if you have some access to fishing a few 4-6feet of water spots, but I wouldn't try them too much in 1-3feet of water. Then again, you have to try a few different brands for yourself, and figure out which ones you like.

Use every crankbait you own. there are no rules.

One thing that works time after time is running a deeper crank, like a DT10, in 4' of water. Just kepp banging it into the bottom.
