John G Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 I am wanting a small swimbait rod. Specifically a Big EZ rod. A Big EZ with a 1/8 weighted hook weighs roughly 3/4oz so I do know that I want a heavy power rod. Maybe even a heavy +. Should I be looking for a moderate or a fast action rod? Right now, I am using my MBR844 but IMHO, the MBR844 is more of a MH +. If it's a fast action that I need, then I will get a MBR845. If it's a moderate action, then I have nothing in mind. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted January 13, 2012 Super User Posted January 13, 2012 John I have been using a st croix legend extreme medium heavy moderate action for that exact application. It's a XC72MHM rated for 3/8 to 1 ounce and I have been real happy with how well it preforms. Casts extremely well & has plenty of power. Quote
Mike__D Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Right now my small swimbait rod is the shimano cumara 7'11' MH extra fast action (CUCX711MH). To be honest though i have not yet had the chance to use it as all the water in Quebec Canada is frozen solid. However I did read some very positive remarkd on this rod, which is what prmpted me to pick it up. Mike D Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 15, 2012 Super User Posted January 15, 2012 MBR 842C Mine is saddled with a Core 50MG. Match made in heaven! Quote
John G Posted January 15, 2012 Author Posted January 15, 2012 A medium swimbait rod! I never would have figured that for a bait as big as a Big EZ. roadworrior, I know that you were not saying that you throw a Big EZ with the MBR842. I have researched the MBR842 on this site and I have read that you throw the Kitech Swing Impact swimbait with the 842. The 842 is definitely on my 'want list'. I would put my Curado 50E on it. Are you using the smallest Kitech swimbait with the 842? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 15, 2012 Super User Posted January 15, 2012 4.8" Keitech Swing Fat Impact, Shadalicious, Hollow Belly and GYCB Swimming Senko. I just picked up a couple of bags of the RI Skinny Dippers, but haven't fished them yet. Quote
