Pretty cool Goose52, what size conquest did you get?

The 50. Palms like a dream and makes my (originally my Dad's) 'ole Ambassadeur 5000 look positively gigantic...

I think everyone should have at least one 50 , don't you.

Tru dat! Excellent choice. I'm actually more comfortable using it than palming the CU50e. Great for topwater/ walk-the-dog technique.

Well, it's certainly an outstanding piece of machinery and just a perfect size - with an IPT that is practical for a number of techniques. I normally wouldn't buy a reel in this price range, but I had some mad money and just bought it. It's just a nifty reel - for some reason it reminds me of the 100+ year-old pocket watch I inherited from my great grandad - the reel just drips quality.

Well those aren't available online, does that mean they are sold out?

Store only - and I would think there won't be any left in the stores pretty soon.

I picked up a 100 conquest this fall & I can't put it down. It will probably last 100+ years like your old pocket watch.

I have two Ambassadeur C-4 reels that I use for swimbaits and heavier jigs and spoons. They outcast my low-profile reels by about 20% and are built like tanks. Also use them for muskie fishing.

I just got off the phone with Academy Sports at 4:45 my time. Calcutta 200 TEGT at $138 and change. According to several different voices on the phone, they are totally not available on line. There were none available at the Springfield, MO. store (the only Academy store within reasonable driving distance).

It was in-store only. The store in Plano, Texas had a few. A store in South Carolina had a few. They absolutely, positively, wouldn't accept over the phone orders. I tried asking in several different ways. I asked to talk to supervisors. Finally the voice on the phone had to ask me, "What part of IN STORE ONLY don't you get?"

Bummer. One of the finest Shimano reels I've ever played with, at an astounding price. I've got a few of these reels, and they are my absolute favorites. I was all set to buy half a dozen of these reels or more, if they had them.

If you live anywhere near these two stores that have this reel at that advertised price, go buy it right now. You won't regret it. They last forever. Like all the other Calcutta reels, they are built like tanks, only this model has 11 ball bearings.

I'm really bummed that I couldn't score any.

Hey Dwight - I don't have 100 years left so I know the reel will outlast me for sure...

I called the store in Rogers AR, likewise none in stock. I hate sales where the seller doesn't have the item they list as being on sale in the stores.

I like to use my round Abu's for cranks, spinner baits, heavy jigs, and c-rigs.

my only baitcasters are round reels. i have a 5601 BCX Ambassadeur that i bass fish with, its also a fun catfish reel. then for Christmas i just got a 6601 C4 Ambassadeur that i havent used yet, havent even spooled it with line yet, but im dying to actually fish with it. i imagine it will be more for catfish than bass though. soon i will be spooling it up and practice casting it. both are left hand models =]
