joebills78 Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I have a 520c at the front of my boat and a dash mounted Lcx26c HD. Both units are less than 3 years old now, however the smaller unit stopped working a year ago and the dash unit has been on the fritz for about 6-8 months. Considering the exceptional cost of these two units at the time of purchase when compared to their competition I am quite disappointed in how short their life was. When they were working they were awesome. What really got me to wondering was the video of Iconelli's boat tour on this site. He has two Lowrances in front AND two in dash "just in case one goes out". I spent a poop load of money on those two pieces of equipment and I'm not feeling I've gotten my moneys worth. So now that I've got that of my chest. What should I do now? I need two quality fish finders that will last longer than a pair of underwear. My wife will kill me if I spend that kind of money again. (she fishes with me) Does Lowrance have any goodwilll offerings? Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted January 12, 2012 Super User Posted January 12, 2012 There is a reason many electronics carry a twelve month guarantee. The manufacturer has no control over the units once they leave the plant. Marine electronic devices will endure a lot of abuse before they fail. They live in a hostile environment, particularly those used on salt water. They operate over a fairly wide range of voltage, yet must have protection if the voltage exceeds or drops below operating specs. Some folks are meticulous in caring for their gear, others not so much. Two or three years ago, Lowrance had a problem with water/moisture getting into the units and wreaking havoc with them. If you can determine and document that water got into the units, causing them to malfunction, Lowrance may be willing to do something to help you out. It's worth a shot, if that is the problem. Quote
NBR Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Call Lowrance. That should have been done as soon as you had trouble. Don't even think about opening the unit up for I am sure that will void the warrantee. Be polite when you call and if you are not satisfied with the answer you get ask for a supervisor. Quote
