A-Rob Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I was going to buy some bulk Vicious Flourocarbon.... I can get 800 yards of 20# of the base flouro OR for about the same price.... I can get 500 yards of 20# of the elite flouro I typically lean towards the higher quality but with fishing being as expensive as it is I was wondering if I could get away with the basic Vicious. Anyone with experience using both versions can give a quick analysis between these two lines? Thanks in advance... for not telling me to switch to Berkley or Seaguar hahaha Thanks guys Quote
McAlpine Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 No experience with the special stuff but used the basic version exclusively this last season on several rods. Too much memory. Probably wont buy it again. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 11, 2012 Global Moderator Posted January 11, 2012 Do yourself the favor and get the Elite. The orginal has horrible memory. The Elite has quite a bit also if you get it in heavier weights but most flouros do it seems like. Both are extremely strong though. I've fished both lines quite a bit and liked the elite much better. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I have not tried the elite yet but as stated before the regular has a tons of memory and a bit stiff. I solved the memory issue with some ardent line butter and after fishing a bit I actually came to like the stiffness. Quote
A-Rob Posted January 11, 2012 Author Posted January 11, 2012 Thanks guys for your input, much appreciated. Good to know about the strength. I can put up with the memory as long as I don't loose any fish on line failure...I hate that....That's when the jig rod with braid gets picked up haha. Quote
McAlpine Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Wont complain about line strength. It's some tough stuff. I caught several 4's, (2) 5's and a 6 this year on 10lb Vicous with no breaks. You have to watch it though depending upon where you are fishing, it will tend to fray if you rub something or a big fish gets his mouth on it. You have to keep an eye on it and retie. I am still debating if I will leave last years line on and try some line conditioner this year or if I will strip off half and keep what is left as backing and go with something else....maybe some tatsu. If I only have to put half as much on maybe I can afford it. Quote
McAlpine Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I will add one thing though, since in small patches the memory part is not really an issue I found that I am extremely happy with Vicous as leader material for my braid. I dont think I have a rod with braid on it that I dont have Vicous tied on between lure and braid. Quote
Jason Penn Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 i use the regular in 15# on casting and the elite in 8# on spinning. i don't have any problems with the regular but i do use the conditioner on it. the 8# elite seems to be working out good on spinning for me. Quote
msolorio Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 all i use is vicious, mono, pro elite, braid its all amazing. the pro elite is a better fluoro than the original. ive had fish wrapped around logs, got em out and no line abrasion. it does of course get stiffer with the heavier pound test as does all fluoro but nothin a lil line conditioner cant remedy. pro lite all the way man. The only thing I don't is if the line I'm using is so cheap I would use it for backing anyhow....As an example I still am using Berkley Big Game for crankbaits, and I don't back those. Everything else I back. Quote
bassh8er Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Used Vicious for the first time last year, and it was ok. I did, however, notice that it was terrible for tying a knot. Just my opinion, but it was actually the first line that I noticed having issues tying the knot. Quote

I switched to a San Diego Jam knot and I have better flouro knots but I will be careful with my knots on VIcious, thanks for the heads up. I wonder if the Elite is any better? Quote
