Captain Obvious Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 So I'm going to be doing some boar hunting this year and I've been considering getting another rifle for it. I currently have a Winchester 270 and I'm thinking it might be a little overkill for boars. Just wondering what you guys use and if your got any suggestions? Capt.O Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted January 10, 2012 Super User Posted January 10, 2012 Depends on the boar I'd say but on predator nation they droped one with a 25cal airgun Quote
Captain Obvious Posted January 11, 2012 Author Posted January 11, 2012 Safe to say I will not be hunting them with an air gun Lets say for a boar within 400 lb range Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted January 11, 2012 Super User Posted January 11, 2012 I'd think any 30 cal be it 308 or 30-06 300 win mag would work or if it's up close a lever gun in 35 rem would be nice iv never shot a hog hell never seen one but I know all the rounds would work well. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted January 11, 2012 Super User Posted January 11, 2012 .308 it kills everything. Generally I'd say dogs and a big friggin knife, but I aint jumping on a 400 lb boar. So again go with a .308. Quote
SDoolittle Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I'd stick with the .270 unless you're just needing an excuse to buy a new rifle (been there myself). Quote
MuffinMan Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 I do just fine with my 243 and 100gr Core-Lokts. I have a wma hog quota hunt tomorrow and sunday, will post pics if i get some. If you would like I will dig the bullet out and take a picture to give you an idea on its expansion..? Quote
Captain Obvious Posted January 14, 2012 Author Posted January 14, 2012 I do need a excuse to buy a new rifle but my wallet doesn't take excuses. Thanks guys guess I'll stick with the 270 for now Quote
IneedAnewScreenName-972354 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 i would stick with that 270. It's flat shooting and will get the job done. Quote
