APK62 Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Looking at getting a reel for jig fishing. Which would you pick, The Zillion is $75.00 more. Shimano Curado 7.1 Ratio Model 200ET Diawa Zillion 7.1 Ratio Andy Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 10, 2012 Super User Posted January 10, 2012 The Zillion is a little faster, and a little smoother. The Curado has more drag power out of the box. Either would suit you fine. Quote
bwell Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I use a zillion for my jig rod and love it. Quote
guitarkid Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I'm going to be the odd ball here, I would say Curado and spend the extra $75 on jigs and trailers Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Personal preference and budget, both are good reels. Quote
Fat-G Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 This will sound weird to some, but I would prefer the Curado in that situation. I actually prefer a less smooth reel for contact baits, and I'm not really sure why. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted January 10, 2012 Super User Posted January 10, 2012 For jig fishing the rod is a lot more important than the reel. Either reel will be fine. If you don't have the rod, go with the less expensive reel and spend more money on the rod. If you already have the rod, being a Daiwa man, I'd go with the Zillion. Like J said, it will be a bit faster, a bit smoother, but also a bit heavier. 1 Quote
MrSwimJig Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I would go with the Curado based on those 2 choices. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted January 10, 2012 Super User Posted January 10, 2012 Curado e7's on both of my jig rods! Jeff Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 11, 2012 Global Moderator Posted January 11, 2012 I have a few of the E7's and they work great for bottom contact baits for me. It's really personal preference though, either of them will work just fine so go with the one that you like best! Quote
A-Rob Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I flip/pitch with a curado e7. Never had a problem with it for that technique. Drag power is solid even with braid and a heavy stick. Easy handling, can skip or pitch lighter lures smoothly (no problems with backlashes like pitching with a cheap reel) However, I have never tried the zillion reels. Quote
shackman Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 E7 all the way!!! I only fish Shimano's though is the reason for my opinion, never fished a Zillion... Quote
Craiger12 Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I will agree that the rod is more important than the reel for jig fishing. However, I have a Zillion 50th on my main jig setup and will always vote for the Zillion platform. They just feel amazing in my hand, despite the weight. All the Zillion variants are solid reels that feel smooth and connected on the retrieve, and some are better than others. Quote
bassinbrian Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Another vote for the zillion, based on my personal preference. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 12, 2012 Super User Posted January 12, 2012 I heard from a little birdie he got a good deal on a Zillion. Quote
