I always toss out hooks and lures like jigs once I've bent the hook. Maybe just personal preference, but I feel like once I've weakened the hook that there's always the possibility of it breaking under the stress of fighting a fish. Just my opinion.

I mainly use superline (heavy guage) hooks on everything. I have in fact bent them back into shape once or twice when I was in a pinch for time or hooks. And for sure with screwlock or swimbait hooks and jigs, one time bending back will often take place if they're only slightly opened up.

I put them in my rainy day box along with ripped sebkos and torn up plastics etc.  I will usually repair them once a month or so and use them as loners when someone comes out and doesn't bring their own tackle or asks for stuff constantly

They go over the side of the boat.

along with said cigarette butts, from other thread. :)

I've been lucky.  The hooks on the Jackall Wacky Jig Heads are lightweight, and do bend when snagged on a rock.

It doesn't take much to bend them.  I've been bending them back into position, and yet to have one break while a fish is hooked.

But I've had them break while performing the second or third "reconditioning".

I'll bend it back unless it feels like it is about to fail. At that point I'll grab a new one and put the old in a trash bag. I'm not fishing for cash so if I lose one to a failed hook I just assume it was a giant. :)

Straight in the trash...

Good advice, I have nothing to add.

Throw all your Gammie's in the trash, bent or not and get Owner hooks.

Seriously though, when I do bend a hook I throw it away.

I will not re-use a bent hook.  I buy in bulk, usually 50 at a time, and get them so cheap that it's not worth having it break off and lose a fish.  The chance of that happening is slim, but i'd be pretty upset if I lost a fish because of a damaged hook, when I have hundreds of brand new hooks.

i have never bent a hook, the fish don't get big enough to do that here in MI.  ;D ;D ;D ;D
