JIGFISHERMAN. Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 So I graduated 14 years ago.... Long story short, I didn't go to college. Ended up with a great job in the boating industry, and then that fell apart.....Even longer story shorter... Tomorrow morning will be my first day of school in 14 years. I'M SO NERVOUS. Most of my nervousness is because I'm doubled up on non introductory classes. Instead of 1 semester 1 class, I'm looking at 1/2 semester 1 class, then the other 1/2 the next. If all works out I'm going to do this with other classes. Trying to be a certified teacher this time 5 years from now. This is why I'm broke and trying to come up with tackle I need for no cost. My wife and family are already making big sacrifices so this is possible. I really won't have time to work much. Though this spring I should be able to squeeze in a bunch of docks/hoists which usually pays pretty well. 1 Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted January 9, 2012 Super User Posted January 9, 2012 Don't sweat it. "Older" students are really the norm nowadays. Just keep working on your school/studying discipline, and you'll be all good. What type of education degree are you pursuing? Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted January 9, 2012 Super User Posted January 9, 2012 Good luck with your new adventure. I'm not sure about spending five years to get a teaching degree right now, but hopefully it works out for you. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted January 9, 2012 Super User Posted January 9, 2012 Wish you best of luck! I know I'd be nervous as heck too! Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted January 9, 2012 Super User Posted January 9, 2012 Good luck homie. If you believe in yourself and work that tail off you'll do just fine. If you don't let failure be an option, then success is your ONLY option. Again best of luck to you. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted January 9, 2012 Super User Posted January 9, 2012 Best of luck. Just one word of advice, don't try to be that "know it all guy" like that one older gentlemen in one of my accounting case study. (tried to tell me I'm wrong, when the professor later said I was right) Nothing to be nervous about, in my experience younger and older crowd has got along in class except one occasion that I mention. Follow professors' instructions and you'll be fine. Quote

K-8.....Hopefully that leads to a job with 1st thru 6th, pfererably 2nd, 3rd, 4th Good luck with your new adventure. I'm not sure about spending five years to get a teaching degree right now, but hopefully it works out for you. Thanks. It's like that with everything now really. But being a guy helps since there aren't many guys teaching that age group. Plus as cuts force older higher paid teachers out, there will be more openings. Wish you best of luck! I know I'd be nervous as heck too! Thanks! Today went OK. Good luck homie. If you believe in yourself and work that tail off you'll do just fine. Ya it won't be like HS where all you had to do is pay attention, ace tests, and occasionally do some homework. Best of luck. Follow professors' instructions and you'll be fine. I plan to keep a low profile. I'm not there to be a know it all, or anything like that. Hell I'm not really there to be very social. Most guys are much younger than me, and I'm married so I have very little motivation to be sociable with females. I'm just there to learn, finish, and move on. Quote
JIGFISHERMAN. Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 This is something I've wanted to do for awhile. I think I interact with kids this age pretty well between my own kids, and all the kids I know from coaching football, and our church group. Although I will say I don't have much experience with little girls. It's much easier for boys to interact with men, since they don't normally get to do that in a school setting. At least that is what I hear, and have noticed with my older son's teacher-his first male teacher. Quote

Plus as cuts force older higher paid teachers out, there will be more openings. Also on the plus side, they are trying to increase the number of charter schools in our state, which may lead to more openings for a short while. Quote
