Something I've Recently Learned When Spending On Equipment

If you dont want anyone knowing that you bought a new fishing rod, make sure you buy it in black or a dark color if thats what you normally use.

hey you got a new rod (from my dad and my friend on back to back days), then came 21 questions

Who got it for you, how much did it cost,, then....What...you spent that on a rod!,,,,yadda yadda...It looks nice though they both complimented

To my friend: its a gift from my dad for xmas

to my dad: I used giftcards

No more questions after that, let me fish in peace

But I actually got 2 rods and a reel

The carbonlite went under the radar which I dont know how since it was paired with that odd colored carbonlite reel, but the rod isnt really flashy so I know what to buy if I have to make a secret purchase

So if you need to make any secret purchases buy something that will fly under the radar, especially if its out of the norm for you

Hey Dink, which veritas rod did u get? I have the 7'6" MH flippin stick & I absolutely love it...

I also have a 7'6" veritas, I call it the compensator and I love it. The 7'6" Veritas has some other good uses also other than Flipping. I've used it for Catfishing, Swimbaits, and Froggin'. Another Veritas I own is a 6'9" ML spinning rod that I use for just about everything when it comes to extra light tackle 1/8oz and below I broke my old Abu Garcia Vendetta on a fish last year but I have high hopes with the new ML just because my 7'6" fishing pole has held up pretty well.

That's where im lucky, everyone i fish with understand that fishing equipment isn't cheep. Hell most of them are huge hunting guys and know that they typically spend more on a gun than i do a rod and real.

That day I purchased the 7ft MH Microguide Veritas to answer your question and 7ft Medium Microguide Carbonlite rod n reel combo

I put a citica I had on the Veritas with 65lb Suffix

My previous rod was a 7ft Berkley Lightning Rod (regular) I also had a 6ft6 field and stream tec spec but I returned it a while back

I havent really used the Veritas enough to see if I like it. Once I hit my normal frog spots Ill know. I love the carbonlite combo tho. The reel is smooth. My citica feels clunky compared to it and its supposedly a much better reel. (shrugs)...Maybe it will last me years.

Im not really used to having good equipment so Im moving forward slowly..My primary was a 5 ft 6 17 dollar diawa walmart with mono combo for a long time. I can actually feel since moving up from that setup.

I spend a good amount of money on eating out from restaurants, started to cook more so Ill put that in a jar for more equip

Or I should has bought 300 dollars worth of (insert whatever stupid crap your friends/family inevitably waste their money on).

I am very fortunate to have several good buddies who work at my local tackle shops. As long as I have cash on hand, they can purchase what I want and I get their discount. This works out great because I can buy more gear or higher quality gear at discount prices. Not to mention my wife is a "sale" shopper. So when she sees that everything on my receipt is at discounted prices, she thinks she is rubbing off on me!

Thats until you really start getting into it. Then you'll find yourself with about 2-3 dozen rods that run anywhere from $100-$400 and up, 2-3 dozen reels @ $200-$400 and up to match the rods, a bass boat that can be like buying an old used honda, or a brand new corvette, and a few thousand dollars worth of tackle (lures, line, hooks, tools, etc...). In all reality, bass fishing as a hobby can be as expensive as racing cars or flying.

I tried running under the radar with black rods, but when the wife opens up the closet in the spare room, and rods start falling out, she knows something isn't right. Use to be only 5 or 6 in there. Now I have a couple of those green Fenwick Smallmouth rods coming. I'm afraid the sh$$ is going to hit the fan. Oh well. I work part time on a second job. She will just have to live with the fact that I am going to spend some of that money on myself.

Unfortunately my reel addiction is worse than my rod addiction.

You should really look into a hobby shop now, it's nothing like the 80-90's and the $5 box car and a $40 cheap engine. Good quality engines today run up to a really good rod/reel combo ($500), heck rolling stock can cost $75 a piece, try setting up just one accurate manifest with three engines for under $4000. And that's just one train with out including DCC, sound decoders, retarded costing track/turnouts, benchwork, scenery, people/autos, ballast/roadbed, I could go on but it's rediculois. MRR has turned into a disposable income hobby, not a lot of people can just pick it up as easy as fishing where I could just drop 2 grand on a decent Jon Boat, another grand on rod/reel combos and another $500 on tackle/tools.

I don't know how you guys can live in "fear" of your wives finding out what you buy? If I need something I buy it. My wife knows baits/line/tackle need to be restocked. She thinks I don't need as much as I have, and she's right. I have been given the business a few times when a TW order shows up, but I don't hide them. Besides I like it when she's mad

lol...my girl doesnt notice much luckily but...I bought a carrot stick rod on sale this week, Dad got in the car and said...you got a new rod within 10 secs...He complimented it at least..He probably thinks Im spending my life away but it was on sale Luckily the other 5 combos werent in the car. He doesnt notice reels though, thank god.

X2, my Dad has been into this for a while, I kind of tinker with it on the side with him, and some of this stuff is ridiculous.

Try the hobby of having racecars... I have 40k+ Tied up in it as it goes together right now..
