Anyone locally want to buy my brand new Dobyns 805 CB RM deep cranking rod? Just bought it for TW for $250, but realized I didn't REALLY need another rod. Willing to part with it for $199.

Thanks,

VC

Seems like it could be a fun rod :)

It's been awhile since I've been here. I'm from Coon Rapids and mostly fish Chisago area lakes, Forest, Big Marine, East/West Rush and some lakes in Aitkin/Crow Wing County. Big Marine was horribly crowded with pleasure boaters all summer, worst I've ever seen it by far. Going to Chisago or South Center tomorrow but the lakes are getting really low now.

Yes, tough weekend. The weather made sure of that. We maybe caught a dozen bass but they were all 12-14". No giants lost, hooked or otherwise. Not sure where I'll go next weekend yet, but I've about had enough of that low, dirty water for awhile.

Well, I hope some of you MN boys were able to get out and enjoy the stellar weather this weekend! Unfortunately, I have a nasty case of the crud (bronchitis) and I slept all weekend. I was really kind of bummed when I decided at 7AM this morning that I just needed to go back to bed. There should have been a real good bite going on! Hopefully I'll get out next weekend in the cold.

The bite was pretty dang good on Friday...Got a number of 4-5 lbrs, but they were still in deeper water (16-18ft). I expect them to start moving up later this week in get their feed on!

I'm actually from Grand Forks, ND but I stay in the Park Rapids area all summer (Third Crow Wing Lake). Just joined a couple weeks ago. Just bought a Crestliner VT 17 with a 60 hp Merc. I've been using a 'yak for awhile and from the shore before that. Just had a great 4 days of fishing over the 4th. Throwing mostly frogs and missing more than I caught. My question is, how many of you guys throw frogs and if you do, what brand and color? I have been using Scum Frog Trophy frogs in black and green. Great frog but they get beat up pretty quickly.

  • I hope this thread is still alive! I'm about the same as FrogFreak, just bought a yak myself and have been doing most fishing on shore. Originally from Fairbanks, Alaska but I'm living in St. Cloud as of now and was just hoping somebody could give me a little perspective on what would be a fun lake for a getaway weekend!? Or possibly even a meet up? I've only met a few guys who fish regularly from work but I'm always looking for a little friendly get together! Happy to suppply whatever is needed! (Food, fuel, bait or brews!) haha

Colton,

We're up on Third Crow Wing by Park Rapids. If you want to come up and fish, pm me and we can figure it out! I wish I had known about bassresource.com back when I was fishing from shore. This is a great way to meet other fishing freaks! There's a great little canoe/kayak only access lake up here that is pretty stacked up with bass.

I wish the Mn thread was more alive. I've been wanting to ask questions and suggestions about mn fishing. Seems like many of the tips and techniques are more for souther lakes and reservoirs, not natural lakes up north.

Also in two weeks I'm taking a week off work. I plan to go wader fishing for Smallies but don't know much areas. I just know Monticello area but water is high I heard. If anyone knows spots and can PM me that would be great. I'll share my spots in return. BTW I'm strictly catch n release sportsman and fish by myself so don't worry about your spots getting taken over. I only Smallie fish 1-2 times a year. The rest is LMB tournament.

Hey! Just signed up for this forum. Fellow Minnesotan!! Fish all over the cities for Largemouth. Otherwise the cabin on Kabetogama for Walleye and Smallies. Going to Tonka' tomorrow morning with a buddy. ANYONE else been fishing tonka' lately?

Guess I missed this thread when I signed up.

Located in the Northern suburb of Andover.

Don't get to fish even close to as much as I'd like. Mostly due to not having a boat avialable to me and this summer work has been insane. 6 days a week, 12 hours a day almost all sumer this year.

I've fished mostly largemouth as I've not really had the opportunity to fish smallies. Just this year finally made the jump to using baitcasting rigs. Last Sunday I took my cousin and her husband out to Peltier in Centerville to do some dock / shore fishing. It really only took me 20-30 minutes to get used to the baitcast reel. I absolutely LOVE the feel, control and distance I get with them. The fun level and confidence from it went through the roof. I have no idea why I waited so long other than fear of failure and dealing with the backlashes. I got a few but nothing that wasn't fixed in a couple short minutes. The best advice I got from someone was that it was all in the thumb control. I'm now addicted to casting rigs and just got my 2nd setup bought. I cannot wait to get it out and get on the water with them both again.

Bass assassin, Tonka is the best lake in the Metro by far. Also the hardest to learn. Meaning one day your hot spot is on fire and the next your skunked out. It is 20 lakes in one lake. One bay water can be crystal clear and the very next bay it'll be brown stained water. Probably the best lake to catch quantities of 4 pounders in a day. May be hard to get a 5+ pounder due to fishing pressure. There's like 5+ tournaments on that lake every week from various clubs. It always seems to produce though from the top bass teams. Good luck at Tonka.

Still hoping somebody would share me some wader Smallie spots :)

I'm not sure how far you're willing to travel but the Red Lake River up in the northwest part of the state is a sleeper for big Smallies. I've caught 4 pounders from shore in the past.

Hey everyone, new to the site, not to bass fishing! From Bloomington and been fishing since I could hold a rod. Competed in the FLW college series when I attended Iowa State University. Currently serving in the Marine Corps so my fishing time has diminished greatly. I love to fish Bush Lake when I'm home and Minnetonka is my other favorite in the local area. Really excited to run into a group of guys that fish the same waters as me when I'm home!

Welcome! As you can see its very quiet in here. I'm willing to keep it alive but I feel like I'd be talking to myself haha.

As the originator of the thread, I am hopeful we can keep this thing rolling as we head into the best time to fish of the year! Sorry that I haven't been around, but things have just gotten way too hectic and the other times, well I am fishing...

Bass1980, I have bassed fished my whole life and have yet to fish Tonka. Kinda sad, but the lake is very intimidating and I have gotten use to the few lakes that I currently fish....That is one that I NEED to hit up this fall.
