I don't wanna hijack the other jig thread so here goes. I've always been told that bank fishing is basically boat fishing in reverse and vice versa. So my question is how OR do you fish jigs from the bank? Basically meaning do you reverse how your fishing one from a boat. Or do you fish them the same way?

I fish them the same way. I just bring more jigs with me because I tend to lose more on the bank than on a boat

Too funny!

But so true.

I can build a batch of jigs, and lake/river fish for a solid 2-3 seasons.....I lost virtually all of them in 1 season bank fishing the creek in the back yard. :cry4:

You'll actually figure out how to finesse your jigs out of snags (as opposed to ripping them out) the more you fish them from the bank. You'll still lose some, but not as many as you would think once you figure it out.

x3 LilJake, I am only fishing from the bank when I am fishing the open water river for smallies, and that is more of a sit and slllowwwlllyy twitch/drag technique. NorthStar hair jigs are killer on the Mississippi for smallies, but I lose so many of them that I have changed up my arsenal....I don't have the luxery of losing 10 a day like Chris;)

I actually go a little lighter in weight from the bank. It has helped my catch rate with a slower fall, being closer to the targets you want to throw to. Plus the lighter jig tends not to get caught up as much. As for fishing, the same methods work.

If you would learn how to fish a river you wouldn't have that problem, last time we fished together I used the same jig all day, mainly because my hands were to cold to retie and I forgot my others at home, but I still made a whole day on the same jig. :laugh5:
