I have been using Swiftp in conjunction with FileZilla, works beautiful without the need for the cable, faster too. ES file explorer is ok, but not as versitile. Quote

Could you not just use Bluetooth or transfer them through another form of wireless connection? IE network the two through WiFi. This is a out of my realm of expertise. I'm just curious. Quote

No expert, but this is using your wi-fi connection from the phone to your computer, bluetooth transfer is pretty much the same I believe. I'm using android, apps are free and so is FileZilla. What I like better about swiftp is I can transfer both ways, with es file explorer only 1 way from phone to computer, but it works real good too. Quote

If your SD card works with computer that's a good way to go. Using swiftp and filezilla is drag and drop just like using the usb cable but faster, with no need for the cable, it's win win for me. Remember, when you hook it up via USB, you have to go to your phone and give permission for your computer to access your files, otherwise it won't show up on your computer. It's easy to do: once you're connected, just go to your phone and click the "USB Connection". It will ask if you want to give your computer permission. At least, this is how it works on my Android phone. If you have an iPhone, you probably need to buy something in order for it to work. 1 Quote
jeb2 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 My Android phone does not work that way. I hook up via Bluetooth and USB and neither asks questions about granting permissions. HTC Evo, Sprint. Bluetooth is slower than USB, but it's nice to have if a cable is not handy. Quote

I know your kidding, but you can easily set the iPhone up to automatically DL your pics and videos to specific location. No purchase necessary. I just have my stuff linked to the iCloud. Quote

If you have an iPhone, you probably need to buy something in order for it to work. That's what I was thinking. My stepdaughter got an "Ipod touch" from her aunt for Christmas. I spent 2 hours on the computer and phone, just to get it to download music with an account set up to use an "Itunes Gift Card". Seems that Apple RRREEEAAALLYY doesn't like to give you any options other than a credit card they can debit. It all just reinforces my disdain for Apple and their preditory practices. nick76 Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 It has been a couple years since I had to deal with iTunes and their account stuff, but my two sons got Nook Tablets for Christmas this year. I had a similar issue with them. They want a Credit Card on file even if you are using a gift card to make purchases. No Credit Card, no purchases and they charge for everything. One of my biggest complaints, can't get "free" apps that you can get on other Android based products. You have to pay B&N for them, it may only be a few bucks....but still. Quote

Only way to buy online and completely protect your idenity and finances. My 14 year old does not have a credit card, so her only option is to use her pre-paid "Itunes" gift card (Apple's own invention BTW). What's the point of a gift card if you can't use it on their site? I have never had an ounce of trouble using a BPS, Cabellas, Walmart, JC Penny, Sears, you name it gift card on their respective websites. None of the aforementioned retailers ever insisted I have a CC on file with them to use their gift cards. I was finally able to use the gift card to download songs, but not before a rediculous 45 minute wait on hold and a another 45 minutes argueing with the phone rep. What part of "no I won't give you a CC number do you not understand? Waaaayyy more trouble than it should be to redeem a gift card. JMHO Ronnie Quote

An example is when I got my first 35mm camera in the early 50's, I had no idea of the terms, like f-stop, shutter speed, bulb exposure, depth of field, etc.( keeping it easy so you get the idea), Once I understood the vocabulary of the product, the operation became much easier. I still don't know why I need to root my smart phone.......lol, the 12 year olds have a better comprehension of that than I do. Quote

Saves me $20+ a month. And it gives me the ability to use apps I could not otherwise run. But you do risk warranty claims at times on a rooted phone, so there are drawbacks to it, too. Quote
