Super User Redlinerobert Posted January 4, 2012 Super User Posted January 4, 2012 lol. They don't like losing clients I guess. Try a smaller local gym. That's the kind of place I go to. Plus I prefer to deal with local small business owners. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 5, 2012 Super User Posted January 5, 2012 I used to go to a place called Silver's Gym. That place was great. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted January 5, 2012 Super User Posted January 5, 2012 I can't stand Golds. I swear 90% of the people there go just to watch the women on the track and cardio equipment. It took me two hours to do what should have been a 45 minute workout, because of all the idiots hogging the benches and machines while they stare. I'm sorry but proping on the leg press during your ten minute break between sets is unacceptable. Grrrrrrr. Great now I've got myself all worked up. It's the biggest pain trying to cancel the membership. We had to go to the gym to get the forms to cancel. Then it still took a month to get it cancelled. Quote

Plus I prefer to deal with local small business owners. Many (most) of the local gyms use a third-party credit card processing service to handle their membership dues, and they're just as hard to deal with as Gold's Gym. Been there, done that. Google "ASF International" and you'll find tons of complaints. After I canceled my membership I made it a point to call the owner of the gym I used to go to and tell him how much I loved working out there, and that I'd love to come back once I get back to work and have a steady income again, but it will never happen as long as he's using ASF to process his payments. Super User Redlinerobert Posted January 5, 2012 Super User Posted January 5, 2012 I pay 3 years at a time, makes things a whole lot easier and they cut me a deal. Quote
VolFan Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Are they just making the point that you cancelled over the phone? Having moved a few times, I've cancelled a few gym memberships (and phones, cable, etc.). Whenever possible, I try to show up in person and talk to a human being to fill out the paperwork. Either make a copy or fill out two identical forms. Get the name of the person who's helping you fill the stuff out, and keep any and all ID or confirmation numbers. I've only had one problem with this (thank you Verizon). Gold's Gym actually refunded a month's fees for me because they overcharged me. Quote
