I just got an 8' Extra-Extra Heavy Carrot stix gold for Alabama Rigging (fully rigged) and punching, it's rated "Xtra-fast taper" do you think an X-fast taper is suitable for throwing an alabama rig (about 2.5 oz. fully rigged, or more) -thanks

Should be fine. I''m using a Crucial Swimbait or a Dobyn's Swimbait. Both are fast and both are more than adequate. You might find, however, that you don't like the Xfast as a flip/punch rod. I prefer a medium fast for punching.
