Pflueger Supreme Mgx Vs. Supreme Xt Vs. Kvd Sign. Series

Hey everyone,

I am looking for some suggestions in spinning reels. I currently have a Shimano 2500 Sedona that has last a long time! I've caught a ton of fish on this reel, but I want a reel that is lighter and has a gear-ratio of 6:1. So, I am thinking about the Supreme MGX vs. XT to see if the $50 is worth the difference, the numbers (drag rating, weight) seem pretty close. Then, while looking around on BPS's website I stumbled upon the KVD sign. series spinning reel.

So, seeing if anyone has opinions, what they like or dislike about each reel. I did search for the Supreme XT in this forum before posting this thread, and it seems this reel is really well liked.

I don't know about the KVD reel but I have both Pfluegars and the short answer is yes, the $50 is worth the extra you get in the XT vs the MGX. They are both great reels and you won't be disappointed with either but the XT is just lighter, smoother, and an all around nicer feeling reel to fish with. Both reels have the smoothest drags I've ever felt on a spinning reel though.

What the Blue guy said, the XT is worth every penny and I'm a Pflooger hater. It's likely one of the very best values in spinning reels today. It's rock solid and has a great drag with really good gearing and IPT retrieve. It's also very light weight, coming in around the 7 ounce mark versus the Stradic at 9, roughly. Don't get me wrong, I'll forever be a Posse member with a full assortment of Shimano reels from the Stradic to a Stella, but if you're after a great value in a reel and absolutely do not want to spend over the $150 mark, the Supreme is a very good buy for your money.

• i have the XT and am very happy with the reel. great drag and super light. i also just purchased the new stradic fj and so far it is very smooth and feels very solid. havent tested it enough to see the drag, but overall im happy with it.

I have 3 supremes 25-30-35. I think the 30 is an excellent bass sized reel, it's my pond reel, for canals I use the 35. My 35 was my primary light duty surf saltwater reel for about 18 months, with no problems. Drag was good with plenty of line capacity.

I've put exactly zero maintenance in these reels, except for a drop of oil every now and then, they perform like new.

I was in the same boat as you recently, and I will have to disagree with previous posters. I love the pflueger spinning reels, but I don't think the XT is worth an extra $50 over one of the new MGX's. I tried out both before I decided and could barely notice a difference in weight or smoothness, but the thing that really bothered me was the foam knob on the XT. You may not be bothered as much since that is pure preference, but that was a deal breaker for me. I also don't think the weight and smoothness was $50 better, but of course, it is difficult to quantify that and will be up to you to decide. I believe the size 30 is perfect for finesse bass applications.

I was thumbing through the BPS catalog today and saw those new Carbonlite spinning reels at 6.6oz. It mentioned stainless steel bearings, nothing about ball bearings, that always kind of makes me think something is going on. The IPT with the Carbonlite reel at a 5.2to1 ratio was the same as the 6 to 1 gear ratio reels. But, I'm probably sticking with the choices above.

But, I have a 6'-10" Powell Endurance spinning rod to put this on. Using it for 4" weightless Senkos and Plastic crawfish so, I should be pretty happy with either Pfleuger.
