BaitMS Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I've read on a lot of boards that people change the hooks and/or split rings on their baits. Even KVD said he changed the hooks on his bait during the classic. If you've done it, do you change them because you want them to be bigger or smaller? Or do you put the same size hooks on but you prefer a different brand? I've never changed hooks on any lure. I feel that a significant amount of research had to go into developing that lure and the proper hardware has been matched to that bait? Please elaborate... Quote

Gorgebassman Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I change hooks on some of my lures but have never changed the split rings. I put some of those vmc sureset hooks on some of my cranks whos hook I have never been impressed with. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted March 1, 2007 Super User Posted March 1, 2007 I never change hooks or split rings on japanese lures since they allways come with good quality hardware. I do almost allways change the hooks on bandits, storms, rebels etc. because the factory hooks they come with are of poor quality. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted March 1, 2007 Super User Posted March 1, 2007 I change both hooks and split rings , sometimes going up in size. Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I rarely change the hooks or split rings. The only time I change hooks is when I've had the hook straightened out by a big fish which has happened a few times in the last few years. Quote
Bud Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 On LC you don't have to change anything. One more reason to use them. Quote
