soopd Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 How should a curly tail grub be rigged in relationship between hook point and tail? Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted December 31, 2011 Super User Posted December 31, 2011 IMHO, My preference is down, but I really haven't seen any difference as to how you orient the tail. Up, down or sideways hasn't really matter to the bass I've caught. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted December 31, 2011 Super User Posted December 31, 2011 First... one way. When the bait gets a little chewed up, the other way. oe Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted December 31, 2011 Super User Posted December 31, 2011 First... one way. When the bait gets a little chewed up, the other way. oe That's what I do ! Must work OK - I caught 455 fish on grubs this year... Quote
Super User grimlin Posted December 31, 2011 Super User Posted December 31, 2011 I found I got bit more rigging it tail down than up. Light wire hooks are a must, since using light wire hooks my hook ups has increased. By a lot. Does it matter? Probably not on most days. 1 Quote
CSimon2 Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 I always rig mine tail up. Might have to start trying tail down though. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted December 31, 2011 Super User Posted December 31, 2011 I go tail down but agree that I just switch it the other way once it's tore up and still catch fish. Tail down is "officially" the fat part of the tail being down, which is actually the tip of the tail pointing up. Quote
Super User Raul Posted January 2, 2012 Super User Posted January 2, 2012 It don´t matter how you rig it, I start by rigging it tail down and as the bait gets chewed I start rigging rotating the hook on whatever plastic it´s got left. Quote
Greg Carlson Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I've found more luck fishing it tail down, and it's caught me many more fish since I started throwing it tail down. Quote
catchnm Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I've always rigged mine where the end of the tail is the opposite direction o the bend of the hook. I have switched and rigged it what I call " tail up" but usually just switch when they get chewed up. I repair them later with a hot punch heated with a cigarette lighter. Quote
basskng21 Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 i think you shud rig the tail up and the hook open in the same direction as the tail Quote
catchnm Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 This is the way I rig a grub on a lead jighead or for unweighted open hook fishing like this one is........................ If texas rigging then I go with the bend of the hook the same direction as the bend of the grub tail. Quote
