Super User BASSclary Posted December 31, 2011 Super User Posted December 31, 2011 When I cast it's a bit noisy, so I flushed them and then put a drop of Reel Butter in, but the same noise is there. i thought maybe its a little under-lubed, maybe my drops were small. So I added an extra small drop and the noise is still there. It isn't a noise that makes me think on bearings dying, but it isn't the nice whirrrrrr I'm used to hearing. It's a Daiwa Fuego if it helps. Also, how much would a new pair cost? Would it be worth it to upgrade to Orange Seals? Quote
Super User Shane J Posted December 31, 2011 Super User Posted December 31, 2011 Yeah, kinda sounds like you do. I have a Fuego that I did that upgrade, and either way, you'll be happy you did it. It's cheap enough, and well worth it if you ask me. Don't remember the exact cost, but it didn't break the bank or anything. That Fuego should be a smooooth operator! Quote

Super User aavery2 Posted December 31, 2011 Super User Posted December 31, 2011 Casting Abec 7 OS Ceramic Hybrid bearings will cost you about 15 each. IMO, they make it possible to cast slightly lighter baits, will give you a small increase in casting distance but make it possible to reach the same distance you cast now with less effort. If you need new bearings they are worth the price in my opinion. Quote

Is it the bearing under the cast control cap, bearing behind the spool engagement pin, or, the palming plate spool bearing? Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Flush and dry the bearing again and spin test each one on a pencil, dowel... A flick with your finger should have the bearing spin for several seconds with only the slightest sound. Noise or rough spots would indicate a bad bearing. Inspect the spool edge for any nicks or dents and clean the spool edge and where it rides in the frame with a swap and alcohol. If you decide the spool bearigs are bad, the ABEC 7 OSC bearings are a definite upgrade. I sell them for 10% off retail to members here. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 31, 2011 Super User Posted December 31, 2011 They could be bad, but I think they're just not completely flushed. Keep soaking and swishing in acetone, and replace the acetone until it is totally clear after an hour of soaking and occasional swishing. Quote
