rowyourboat Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 im new to drop shot fishing, but im committed to getting good at it this year.... so what are some of your favorite lures to use? i just was to know the best ones so i can start there. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted December 30, 2011 Super User Posted December 30, 2011 LFT Live Magic Shad. Fluke Robo Worm Quote
RyneB Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I got into it late last season, so I didnt have a huge amount of time with it. But i found the Roboworm to be hands down the best. Had luck with a Zoom trick worm and a Gulp! leech. Next season im gonna try a Zoom lizard and a LFT magic shad. I would start with a Roboworm though, thats what most people told me to use, and it was great advice. Quote
JIGFISHERMAN. Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 My favorite is a lure nobody uses, and I sure as heck aint' gonna post it on here. But your standard Robo worm is hard to beat too. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted December 30, 2011 Super User Posted December 30, 2011 Light drop shot baits or bubba sized? I had a few days last year where I got good results on the Power Bait crazy legs chigger craw and on the Gulp sinking minnow. Both in a green pumpkin color. One caveat with the sinking minnow, be committed to it for a while, because as soon as you set it down on the deck it shrivels up and is worthless 5 minutes later. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted December 30, 2011 Super User Posted December 30, 2011 I fell in love with the Strike King 3x 4" finesse worms last year. Caught lots of fish, many big ones, and didn't even use a full pack. Other than that some other favorites are 3" Senkos, GYCB shad shape worms, zoom tiny flukes, and gulp minnows. Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 When nothing else works, a gulp minnow on a dropshot rig is my go to. Quote
rowyourboat Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 wacky rig the robo worm? or nose hook??? Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted December 30, 2011 Super User Posted December 30, 2011 Berkley 4" Power Worm - in Green Pumpkin. A-Jay Quote
FL_Sharpshooter Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Zoom baby brush hog in black emerald Quote
Bass Dude Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Chompers or Zoom centipede or french fry. Quote
Packard Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Any type of goby style bait works great for smallmouth up here on the great lakes as well. Quote
Brandon K. Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Where are you from in West Virginia? I'm From the Northern panhandle and mostly fish the Ohio River, but travel up and down the state fishing all the different lakes and rivers. If you do fish the Ohio, Gulp minnows (3 in.), small tubes and Roboworms all nose hooked. But my best producer on a dropshot for all the rivers and lakes in West Virginia has been a wacky rigged Flick Shake worm. Hope this helps. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted December 31, 2011 Super User Posted December 31, 2011 Roboworm in Aaron's Magic Hard to beat that bait on a drop shot. I nose hook it about 90% of the time. If things get tough, I'll try a Chompers 4" worm. These are sooooo stinky (with garlic) that the fish sometimes turn on to them in a big way. Quote
BradH Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Yep, Chompers 4" dropshot worm. They work on jigs and split shot rigs too. I started drop shotting some flies, clousers. The tactic shows promise. Quote
Crankenstein Crony Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Can't go wrong with Roboworm. The Zoom finesse worms are pretty good. My buddy likes the Big Bite Bait Shaking Squirrel, but I can't say for myself. I haven't tried those yet. Nice thing about all 3 brands is they are pretty cheap so once you find a couple colors you like you can buy a bunch of em with out breaking the bank!! Quote
Hound_dog Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 I usually rig my drop shot up with a zoom tiny fluke. My next choice is a hightail holehot 4 3/4" finesse style worm. I find that it has more tail action than the zoom finesse worm does. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted January 7, 2012 Super User Posted January 7, 2012 Robo worm Fat Straight Tail Worm in 4.5" size. Quote
brianwhite Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 i've had good luck out of the coffee tubes, golden shiner color around my area, and also a pro-model black/blue tube Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Robo worm Yamamoto cut tail Big Bite goby Tiny Fluke Outlaw Baits drop shot tube These are always with me on a smallmouth outing. Quote
jmb27 Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 wacky rig the robo worm? or nose hook??? I prefer nose hooking it. It is hard to fish it wrong. Another dropshot bait would be the Jackall Cross-tail shad. They look like nothing, you don't impart much action to the lure, but they produce. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted January 10, 2012 Super User Posted January 10, 2012 I like Jeff Kriet's big bite baits for my dropshot, but I am also looking to try something new as well. Quote
